Wasilla Gays Invite Levi Johnston Out

Via The Advocate, members of the gay community of Wasilla have written an open letter to Levi Johnston in response to the claim he made during an interview with Joy Behar that he has never seen any homosexuals in the town.

"We're here, we're queer, and we live on the Last Frontier, even in Wasilla," the letter reads. "We keep a low profile because of people like this Wasilla pastor who says we're the anti-christ... and the people who like Sarah."

It concludes with an invitation for Levi to meet "the local gays" for a night of "drag queening" at a bar in Anchorage.

In a GQ article from June, Levi was described as battling his past "homophobic outbursts." His new policy of so-called "versatility," however, has allowed him to become "very comfortable being a gay icon," so maybe he'll accept their invitation. Whether he'll come in drag is another question.

It definitely takes some guts for him to even say he is trying to be more understanding about the gay community. I am from a small rural town in PA and I can attest to how hard it is to be a male that is NOT homophobic. If you say you are willing to even talk to GLBT people, then you might as well pack your bags and head for a city where you can start over with a fresh reputation because the whole town is just going to shun you for being one of them.

I give the man a lot of props because I have been through the whole thing myself, it really helped me find out who my real friends were, I just didn't rake in the cash from endorsement deals for doing so.

Being gay and doing drag are two different things: They can be related, but just because one is gay doesn't mean one wants to dress like a woman.

Yes, Levi IS a hottie...that's part of it, and of course, a night of drag queening with Wasilla Gays must figure to be a blast and...yes, part of it...a big part of the attraction...is the fits this must be giving his ignorant almost-mother-in-law.

All the gay attention to Levi does seem a little overboard at times but...key, I don't mind him milking (pardon the pun) as much out of this as he can.

Coming from rural America and now living in NYC, I can completely understand wanting to "get out" and see the rest of the world. And Levi has turned what was a pretty humiliating experience into a way to do just that. I don't see any harm in it. I'm just hoping he's using the money wisely and supporting his kid.
