Jill Biden

SLOTUS Jill Biden was interviewed by CBS News Sunday Morning for a segment to be shown this weekend. Here are a few excerpts of what to expect from the CBS press release:

Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, sits down with correspondent Rita Braver in an exclusive in-depth interview to be broadcast on CBS News SUNDAY MORNING this weekend (9:00-10:30 AM, ET). In the candid interview, Biden asserts the importance of being self-relying saying, "I don't want to, you know, say to Joe, 'Hey Joe, can I have $100 bucks for this?'...I think it's important for every woman to have her own money and be independent." Biden also discusses balancing her job as a teacher and her role as Second Lady and reveals her unique approach to getting her political points across to her husband. Additionally, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden offer their thoughts on the woman who says, "Nice is blah."

MICHELLE OBAMA ON JILL BIDEN:

RITA BRAVER (V.O.): When you watch Jill Biden shaking every hand in sight...You may be tempted to say..."isn't she nice!" That would be a mistake!

JILL BIDEN: Nice is blah, it's just too bland. So I never want to be nice...

MICHELLE OBAMA: She's an incredibly passionate focused woman.

RITA: I think after her family you are the number one fan?

MICHELLE: Oh yeah, I'm up there, I'm up there, but you know my husband loves her...my mom loves her...so she's got a lot of fans.

BALANCING HER JOB AS A TEACHER & ROLE AS SECOND LADY:

RITA: You keep it very low key at your college...You even ask your security detail to kind of dress down a little bit. Your office is not...or I guess you have a cubicle is not...

JILL: I have a cubicle

RITA: Plastered with pictures of your husband...why?

JILL: Well because I think it's important that they see me as their English teacher.

-------------------------

JILL: One day I was teaching my class and then I had to go to the White House right after, so literally, I took my dress to school. After my classes I went into the ladies room, changed into my outfit, got into the car...went to the White House...So there are real, you know, Superman moments.

JOE BIDEN ON MEETING & PROPOSING TO JILL:

JOE: [My brother] Frank said...I know this beautiful girl...you'll love her...she was in my English class and she hates politics, you'll love her.

JILL: And I found him interesting, and charming...as he is. And he shook my hand good night...and that was so different from...

RITA: he didn't try to grab you...

JILL: No, no. And at one o'clock in the morning, I called my mother and I said, "Mom, I finally met a gentleman"...and that's what hooked me. That's what hooked me.

JOE: Beau said, ''Dad, hunter and I were thinking we should marry Jill.'' Swear to god, swear to god... true story...I didn't have the heart to tell them I'd already asked her and she said no. (laugh) I had to ask her five times.

RITA: Why'd you say no?

JILL: Because here were these little boys who had lost their mom and their sister, and I had to make sure that this marriage was gonna work...and because...I just couldn't have their hearts broken again.

MAKING HER POLITICAL VIEWS KNOWN TO HER HUSBAND:

RITA: Do you talk to the Vice President about this... or do you have to?

JILL: Absolutely

JILL: If I want him to get my position on something I scotch tape it to the bathroom mirror...

JOE: Not a joke.

RITA: Is that true?

JOE: Absolutely...you go into my bathroom at home...or in the Vice President's residence...and it'll be up -- literally she'll scotch tape an article. She'll scotch tape something.

I've "met" Dr. Biden twice, in that we've been to the same event and within about 10 feet of each other. Her warmth and honesty are so refreshing, as is her wry sense of humor and - let's be honest - her effortless style. She's the kind of working woman that I can only hope to be. Let's hear it for the SLOTUS!

P.S. - I hope she knows how much her support of the troops means to liberals like me who are often presumed to be anti-military.

We're so fortunate to have both First and Second families who are so grounded. They're the epitome of what a family should be.

I really like Jill. She's a bit more modest and reserved and contrasts with Michelle in style and personality and aggressiveness. Not that I don't like Michelle but she just seems to be everywhere, see me like where there is cute and dignified Jill. Two very different styles which I'm sure suits Michelle. Joe always looks like he just adores her and what a wife and mother she's been! She deserves a medal. She's done it all her way.

Give it up, mssreader aka mrsfonebone. Your repeated attempt to praise Jill Biden at the expense of Michelle is almost as lame as you are. Get a new routine.

Maybe because Michelle is the FIRST LADY!!!!!!!!

You know what's cool people of color and people around the globe love michelle for who she is so I guess there is a difference of opinion.

Michelle is who she is and I love it. Jill is who she is and i love it too.

Uh oh. Don't say "nice". Remember Jill doesn't want to be nice because it's blah. LOL. Seriously, they are a great couple and I'm so happy to have a First and Second Family that are just so classy.

I just think she (Dr. Biden) is as cute as a "bug in the rug" (Don't know where I dredged up that saying..LOL )

You also know that there is a very active brain behind the cuteness. She is a lady and her husband, a gentleman. I can just see her saying that "being nice is blah"

We have two beautiful ladies representing the US, and I am grateful for both.

Yeah, where does that saying come from??? I grew up in the south, and I used to hear it quite often, so I think it's southern. Don't know, though. Anyway, I, too, am grateful for these two intelligent, strong, independent women. Great role models for our girls!

It probably is Southern and I grew up here, although I lived in SoCa for 30 years. Sometimes you just can't take the South out of the girl LOL

Never saw Hillary and Tipper together during an eight years span. Hillary wanted to be center of attraction.......Not Bill, not Al nor Tipper period.

Perverted sense of perspective. I believe Tipper was a very vocal spokesperson for mental health parity issues. She was also caring for a large family, including, I believe her elderly mother. She did not work outside the home. The media and public are making a deal out of Dr Biden's job when, in fact, most women of any economic status who have a profession are working outside the home and using their education. The wife of a President could not do it but the wife of the VP is setting a much needed precedent and she is in Education so no one can accuse her of anything other than educating others.

That's not true and there are loads of photos to prove it. They were together constantly on the campaign trail and photos of the 4 of them abound. It's not true that Hillary wanted to be center of attraction. In fact both ladies worked together on the health bill. Get your facts together before making such a bold statement which can easily be proven to be untrue.
02:12 PM on 12/12/2009
Being together on the campaign trail is mandatory, you dolt! That doesn't count.

They never socialized because the two couples didn't care for each other. It didn't help that Hillary thought she deserved Al Gore's office in the WH and when Bill stunk up the oval office with ML.

I think Bush and Cheney were such pricks they stained how their spouses were perceived.Maybe they had their good points, but they didn't come through very much.I do think having accomplished women is encouraging to some and probably intimidating to many others.Asking five times says something for perseverance too.

She seems like a very interesting and strong woman, just as Mrs. Obama does. They set a wonderful example for all of us women, and all young girls growing into women.
