Penelope Cruz Movies: How Will 'Broken Embraces' Stack Up? (PHOTOS)

**Scroll down for the 'Broken Embraces' trailer**

'Broken Embraces,' Pedro Almodovar's new movie starring Penelope Cruz, opens today. The noir-infused dark comedy revolves around an aging screenwriter (Lluis Homar) who was blinded in a car accident with the love of his life (Cruz) 14 years earlier. The story of his ill-fated love triangle with Cruz and her older, jealous lover unfolds over flashbacks as events in his life bring back memories of the past.

Cruz has long served as Almodovar's muse. They've previously collaborated on 'Live Flesh,' 'All About My Mother' and 'Volver.' But of Penelope's many Spanish and American movies, which is your favorite?

Penelope Cruz IS the new Sophia Loren. I never thought I'd lay eyes on a woman as beautiful as Sophia, but Penelope sure is.

I think she's beautiful. She is an actress that looks as good without a lot of makeup as she does with it. However, I didn't recognize most of the movies mentioned.

I like her best in Pedro Almodovar movies, such as Volver and All about my mother, and I can't wait to see Broken Embraces. Although I did enjoy her in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I hated "Vanilla Sky" and "All the pretty horses". Big budget American movies don't suit her as well.

"Don't Tempt Me" is easily one of the top three greatest movies Penelope Cruz have ever made. It's well written, directed and edited, and makes some humorous points about religion and politics without being heavy-handed or offensive. Cruz is just one of many great talents in the film, but her performance is especially wonderful - the way she moves and carries herself throughout the film seems a bit overdone in places, but then there is a twist in the final moments that explains her excessively "tough" attitude and mannerisms that pays off with a good laugh for the audience. The setup for this moment spans the entire length of her performance and I doubt a lesser actress could build up to the twist so gradually. HBO and Showtime play the movie in their late night lineups a few times each year and I catch it whenever possible. Even a couple of my friends who absolutely detest foreign movies with subtitles ended up loving "Don't Tempt Me". Sadly, an American version would be watered down and ruined. I highly recommend this movie to anyone with a dry sense of humor.

"She" is the rep from hell.

She used tobe a violent male psycho in the mafia.

when "He" died, part of his punishment was to be a waitress in Hell's cafeteria.

In "Volver" she really seemed to be stepping into Sofia Loren's shoes- very mature, sexy and great acting. No one holds a candle to her.

We relocated to Equador for a few months a while ago. We picked up a knockoff of Volver. The English translation had me rolling with laughter.....I know what your thinking....it was a serious movie. I couldn't believe it when I watched a real English version. Totally different movie. Penelope is an excellent actress and she is a beautiful woman.

I used to think that way. But she's much sexier and a much better actress than she used to be.
08:29 PM on 12/12/2009
That is true. She really has evolved. Remember her in that Nicolas Cage movie where she was walking around with a basket picking up random things? LOL Vicki Cristina Barcelona is my all time favorite!

My kids love her movie with her and Salma Hayek called Bandidas.
and the scene with those two pretending to be whores to get information from Steve Zahns character is fantastically hot. the comedy was good, and Dwight Yoakum was surprisingly good. Much better than I would have ever expected or believed.

Don't Move isn't even pictured here. Why? Because she was not playing a "beautiful" woman. While there were sex scenes, it wasn't about this. If you want to see her best acting, since Volver, you must see this. Penelope can do more than just be sexy. You get tired of this from an actress/actor.

She really shines when she works with Pedro Almodóvar - the roles are more three dimensional and interesting, but then that's a reflection of the director.

She has got to be the most beautiful actress working today - inside and outside. So different.

"Vanilla Sky" of course was a remake of "Abre los ojos". I've only seen the original and have no desire to see the remake.

Jamon,Jamon. Was a good one, maybe her first. She seems more natural sexy, like she likes being loved and in the movies more than in some of her other work.Where she's more aloof. She's one of those stars that won't get old,she just keeps looking lovely.
