Buzzwords For 2010: Which Words Will Catch On Next Year?

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 03:55 PM ET

Last year, JWT trendspotter Ann Mack predicted a number of words she expected to enter the 2009 lexicon -- and some were more successful than others. Among them: Bamelot, pregnorexia, green-collar class, and outliers.

But we think her trend-forecasting acumen was most affirmed by another of her predictions from last year, recessionista, a term that's become nearly ubiquitous in advertising copy.

This year, as part of JWT's end-of-year Trend Report, Mack's delivered a new list of buzzwords to look for in 2010.

Which terms will make their way into wider use? Check out the list and vote for your favorite -- or suggest your own buzzwords by clicking Participate below:

201(k)

After a bumpy year for 401(k) portfolios that saw many lose large chunks of their retirement savings, some are dryly calling the pension accounts "201(k)" plans. But a report last month offered surprisingly upbeat news: on average, 401(k) account balances actually increased by 13% in 2009.

Green collar's more than a buzz word. It's catching on because it's a real grass roots movement to change the nation's attitudes about energy and climate change. If you’re interested in alternative energies and going green, check out http://www.greencollareconomy.com. It has hundreds of case studies on emerging green technology. It's also the largest b2b green directory on the web

Great country we live in... the only ones who benefit from economic % stock market growth are the top 1-3% of earners. Middle & lower class are stuck with stagnant wages, surging gas & food prices, no retirement, and no job security (if they are lucky enough to have jobs).

How long can this trend of inequality continue? Sadly, forever. Even with Obama nothing can be done.
