Peaceful Protesters Take Over Copenhagen; Fight Climate Change (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:55 PM ET

An estimated 100,000 people marched through the streets of Copenhagen this weekend to rally against climate change, the largest of such gatherings in history, demanding that an effective, legally binding agreement comes out of the UN climate conference that is happening this week.

With a range of slogans from "climate change kills" to "there is no planet B" to "nature doesn't comprised," diverse groups of people from all over the world came to show their support for climate justice as they cried out for real leadership against global climate change. Some people even came dressed as a threatened global warming animal, like the panda or polar bear.

Check this collection of photos of the peaceful protesters:

Do you think this is what Nancy Pelosi was referring to as AstroTurf. Love the signs, the buses are parked in the back.

Why no coverage of the violent protestors in Copenhagen?

On the third day of violent demonstrations in Copenhagen, the Danish police have detained over 200 protesters on the sidelines of the UN climate change talks.

Witnesses say the largely peaceful demonstration turned violent after some of the protesters threw petrol bombs at police and set alight barricades outside a squat.

Looked a wee bit astroturfy to me - very orchestrated. Pre-printed signs evenly distributed in a fairly large crowd. Just saying.

The revolutionary spirit seemed very strong - climate 'justice', down with capitalism, act now...

I suspect that the protesters were more interested in social change (i.e. institutional theft) than climate change.

Let it rest everyone!! There will be no change. No matter how much we need it. No matter how much we try to think and plan ahead and call for action. It's all about money and power. Those who have it don't want to give it up. Just selfishness and greed. Humanity will only learn when it is too late.

I see we have lots of petrolls here tonight! Welcome! Had a chance to check out any of the climate data that has not been tainted by those scandalous scientists? Checked out the code for any of the climate models that you loath? Read up on atmospheric physics so you can come to the discussion ... informed? Didn't think so!!!!!! It is so much easier to take your marching orders from whoever it is that drives you! Glenn and Rush and Inhofe I suppose, as well as Exxon Mobile, Moamar, Hugo, Prince Abdullah, Peabody Coal!!! Well, have a nice day. Don't get too rude! Wouldn't want to make yourself look loutish! Cheers!!

I wonder how many trees it took to make all those signs?

The signs were made of recycled paper.

That comment displays an inability to grasp large concepts. This comment sounds like preschool squabbling. WoW!! Genius!! You just undermined the impetus of the Call for Action Against Climate Change. Your insight is uncanny.

AVAAZ is an Service Employees International Union Operative

AVAAZ is out in full force in Copenhagen today. They also published the article below to give the appearance that there is support is Europe for the leftist view in the U.S. Health Care debate.

Here is an example of their propaganda:

"Live blog sets healthcare record straight"
"Live blogging is the latest vehicle for citizens in Canada and Europe who are hitting back in increasing numbers at "misrepresentation" and "downright lies" about public health systems in their countries in what has become a feverish debate over the future of American healthcare.
Within hours of being set up by global campaign network Avaaz.org, over 75,000 people had visited the website to express their support for public healthcare and to testify that it works, well.
The live blog page is receiving a constant stream of personal stories of life saving, life changing or simply efficient and reliable treatment in a range of public health systems," said Ricken Patel, executive director of Avaaz.org.

When have thousands of young people from all over the infected globe committed in unison, as they have in Copenhagen, to climate change and to contesting the shameless power politics that are impeding a considered ethical response?
