'Twilight' Studio To Distribute New Polanski Film

NEW YORK — Summit Entertainment, the distributor of the "Twilight" films, has picked up Roman Polanski's latest movie.

Summit says it will distribute Polanski's "The Ghost Writer" in North America. The film is expected to be released in the first half of 2010.

In the film, Pierce Brosnan stars as a former British prime minister who's writing his memoirs with the help of a ghostwriter, played by Ewan McGregor. It's Polanski's first film since 2005's "Oliver Twist."

The fate of "The Ghost Writer" had been in some doubt since the 76-year-old director was arrested in Switzerland, where he awaits extradition to the U.S.

A California appeals court last week heard arguments on a 32-year-old charge of sexual misconduct against Polanski.

Let me make a guess here. This film will be hailed as one of the years best, nominated for several awards, and he hailed as a brilliant movie maker again. Yet those pesky DA's from CA are still trying to make an example out of him.

I'm sure this deal was predicated on Roman getting 'full-access' to the squealing teenage girls standing in line at the premiere of the final installment of the Twilight trilogy & manning the velvet rope at the afterparty.
