After accepting his Nobel Prize, Obama displeased many Norwegians after being unable to attend the country's Save The Children charity event. In his place, a cardboard cut out was sent to awkwardly preside over the benefit concert. Colbert was quick to jump in the ridiculousness of the surrogate Obama, but did acknowledge that "the winner of the Nobel Prize in 2007 was also replaced by a cardboard cut out. But because it was Al Gore, nobody noticed."
Dubbing the scandal "Corrugate-gate," Colbert was determined to dig deeper, even getting an interview with the (cardboard) President. However, like Obama, Colbert was far too busy to attend and found a suitable replacement.
