CQ Politics :

The campaign spokesman for Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul reportedly resigned Thursday evening amid a controversy over a social networking Web page that he maintained.

Liberal blogs first posted allegations that Christopher Hightower had racist remarks and pictures on his MySpace.com Web page. Hightower originally disavowed any connection to the Web page; hours later, Paul's campaign manager announced that Hightower had stepped down.

He was supposed to be worshiping Glenn Beck & Rush... the racist stuff was ok - in fact, it's sorta in the platform these days...

Listening to some of you people makes me realize just how lost this country really is. Half of you don't even know which way is up and the other half couldn't begin to tell you which way was down. Most of you are between a rock and a hard place and are therefore in limbo.

If someone has to tell you the difference between christianity and satanism, then you have a problem. One is no better than the other and if you believe in either, you are a lost soul. If you don't believe in yourself, the highest power, then you believe in nothing. And if you must live in a construct that gives you rules, regulations, do's and don'ts, then you have absolutely no free will to think for yourself and will forever fall for someone's BS.

In fairness, as Christianity invented the twin concepts of "the emodiment of good" and "the embodiment of evil", it could be said the one cannot be fully a Satanist without believing in Christ or fully a Christian without believing in Satan

The concepts of emobodied good and evil were around a LONG time before Christianity.

I doubt he would've stepped down from the campaign if that was all there was.

Holds equal merit to anything recovered on Acorn, and even less for Vance Jones. I'm still so sad he stepped himself down after that shill beck gave him a headache.

Straighten up Rand. The Republicans will overlook your racism, but the Satanism won't fly.

Let's see if I understand this correctly.
If I 1) create a MySpace page in the name of a political opponent's campaign spokesman, 2) post something extremely offensive on it and 3) leak the information at a time most likely to generate the most explosive sudden firestorm of controversy that forces the campaign spokesman to resign before an adequate investigation can be conducted, then 1) my political opponent will be embarassed (all the better if he is a person less likely to engage in the same dirty politics that I do), 2) I can sanctimoniously question my political opponent's judgment, 3) and major media will readily publish the story, not considering the possibility I might be behind the whole charade.
Sounds like a great plan! What?... Engage my political opponent in a discussion of critical national issues, as he has been doing all along? Why in the world would I want to do that when I have this great plan?!

Do you really think that's what happened or are you just creating a fantasy-world scenario in order to give yourself some hypothetical comfort. Does that even work?

Or perhaps he is merely postulating a viable theory of what happened, since none of us KNOW the truth.

It all sounds plausible--if a bit far-fetched--and ever so Rovian (juvenile) to me.

But honestly, I don't live in Kentucky and do not really care who Kentuckians elect to what. It is their bed, let them sleep in it with Mitch & Co.

i was thinking the same thing. their is no dirt to be dug up on rand, so some guilt by association scenario has to be manufactured.

What does it say about Rand Paul's judgement that he installs a Satan-metal-KKK b0nehead as his "communication director", especially all the Wh1teSupr3mecist issues the Paul family already has? Whether Hightower really believes the garbage on his site is kind of beside the point. For all intents and purposes, "you ARE what you pretend to be" (apologies to Kurt V), particularly in politics.

Bottom line here for the folks defending this guy - he's the spokesman for a Senate candidate and he had for 2 years on his myspace a photo of a lynching. Sorry, there are no excuses.
09:30 PM on 12/18/2009
Please don't waste our time with the blatantly obvious. Of course there are no excuses. The question is whether the presence of the photo after an extended period of time represents Hightower's endorsement of the racist poster's views or is simply careless disregard for the proper management of his Myspace site. I think the answer is clearly the latter.
09:45 PM on 12/18/2009
OK........he was careless with his myspace. Did he post on it within that 2 year time span or did it just sit dormant?
