If only there was a wired technology that allowed one to connect your computer to internet without using a second wireless connection in addition to the wireless connection that the car would make with the cell phone company's cell tower. Hmm, I'm fairly certain the wired alternative to in car wireless wouldn't be USB, Firewire, a parallel port, RS485, RS232, eSATA, Intel's Lightpeak, or some flavor of SCSI. Connection methods like USB and eSATA, RS232 would be ill suited for the task for various reasons. Some other methods like Firewire and RS485 not common on enough laptops. Then there is Lightpeak which would be totally impractical, too expensive, not yet available, is a PR stunt, and will never be available to consumers in its current form. I'm nearly certain that cabled versions of buses like Infiniband, ISA, PCI and PCI Express would be poor choices. as well Wait I know, Ethernet! But what type: single-mode fiber optic, multi-mode fiber optic, Thicknet, coaxial, or twisted pair? Oh yeah thats right, standard Cat. 5/5e/6/6A twisted pair Ethernet is common and would probably be a better choice when the user is in a vehicle and is restricted in their movement? It would also avoid interference from other WiFi devices moving at a different speed than the user. The Doppler Effect surprisingly distorts signals and will cause problems between 802.11a/b/g WiFi devices when both devices are in motion with relation to each other.
