Cook County and its corrupt local governments have been soaking the taxpayers for years. It is one of the reason why Illinois is losing population and companies.

Schaumburg residents, of course, already pay property taxes just like anyone else in Cook County, Illinois, or elsewhere on planet Earth; and they pay taxes into levies that are directly controlled or influenced by the Village/Town of Schaumburg.

The above article is about the addition of a levy exclusively for Schaumburg government, where not all all suburban townships have such a levy. Effectively, this is a property tax increase for Schaumburg homeowners who are already one of the higher-paying groups of homeowners in Illinois's 102 counties.

Rightfully, residents are going to be angry because of the timing of this new levy, which is only going to make life that much more unbearable for them financially. And for the average $300k home, this is a $1,518 increase in yearly taxes in addition to the sales tax and other fees they're already paying.

Frankly, I'm upset that people are not taking the time to consider Firefighters and Police organizations only in terms of civic functions; and not rightfully as lobbyists and special interests. In Illinois, police and firefighters are one of the most influential groups to influence legislation and taxation practices throughout. And this is yet another example of such groups getting exactly what they want: which is to take away our ability to have safe streets AND reasonably compensated government employees without expensive pension benefits the rest of us are not getting.

Cordially,
