Walmart Open Christmas Day? NO! Ignore Rumors, Hours Listings, Etc.

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Walmart
Walmart is not open Christmas Day 2009, contrary to Internet rumors.

For those wondering, 'is Walmart open Christmas Day?,' the answer is no.

Walmart, along with most other major retailers, closed its doors last night, Dec. 24, 2009, and will reopen tomorrow morning, Dec. 26.

Rumors today are rampant that Walmart is open, fueled by an error-filled blog post making that claim and ranking high in Google search results.

That same blog post claims K-Mart and Best Buy are also open, which is not true. These retail stores are closed today for Christmas Day 2009, along with Target and many others.

Many other bloggers followed suit stating that Walmart is open today, even though it is not, citing that original (incorrect) post as a source. This added to the confusion today online and helped the rumor spread even further.

Other sites are also weighing in, some posting places that are open Christmas Day.

It is, though it was showing up high and people were taking it as true.

Dick Cheney will be President before I step in a Walmart. I couldn't care less if they're open or closed...

Seconded! Thirded by my sister. Fourthed by my mother. I like my soul where it is, and shopping there is an automatic forfeiture.

Are you so sad that you have to wander around store aisles on Xmas? (Yeah, me too.) Then go to a music store... the chains are open. And you'll buy music -- big plus. Forgot to shop? Thai food. The traditional holiday meal of the extremely hip. (That's right, the extremely hip. Really.) And then -- it's time to hit the theater! Movies, movies movies! Steampunk is IN! Go, go now!

And have yourself a fairly decent Xmas. Just don't bother trying to pick anyone up. Its the one day of the year absolutely nothing new can start. Okay, Arbor Day too.

In many countries... business shuts down for major holidays (other than street vendors who get their money from festivals and holiday) (e.g. Japan's Golden Week, Canada's en masse week off in August). I'm a bit amazed Walmart closes for christmas day.... given the family's predilections, I'd have figured they'd take the day off while their employees toiled.

Meanwhile most countries get far more vacation and paid holiday than Americans (who are we competing with again?).

After last year I am glad that Walmart closed on Christmas.

Last year the local walmart was open Christmas Day, At 6:30 in the morning my kids after opening all their gifts, wanted me to take them to Walmart to spend there Chirstmas money and gift cards.

I have never felt like more of a failure.
To think that my childran were disappointed with their gifts, and would rather go shopping then spend Christmas together.

I was so happy that they posted this year that they were going to close, maybe this year I will not have to listen to them wanting to go to walmart but not wanting to go to church.

And being on the computer, of course, qualifies as a parent spending the day with the kids. Gosh darn it, where do they learn these anti-family things?

Shame you don't know the answer! :-D

Everyone has a family.

Sometimes a few minutes alone isn't a bad thing.

As a child, I disappointed my parents for having "the spending bug". That was 30 years ago.

As an adult, I also have to spend: College because of this joke of a job market (a game I will play despite my opinions of how the system is broken), extra tools and equipment because instructors say "get this" and/or don't follow the syllabus and the college (that claims they cover everything) won't cover it... even tools required FOR the class they won't cover despite the claim, and these prices are not cheap... ("Maybe I'll change colleges", I thought, until a fellow student informed me he transferred from another college and it's no better... college is THIS expensive and yet the number of blunders they have could populate more pages than "War and Peace"?!) Pity the college made claims they obviously couldn't begin to keep.

Just for a piece of paper that means nothing to corporations.

Sorry to be a cynic. Ho ho ho. Green Giant.
