No Quick Fix Self-Help Books This Year

Perhaps because of Benjamin Franklin and his "Poor Richard" aphorisms, many Americans believe they are one self-help book away from perfection.

Mix that attitude with customers armed with New Year's resolutions and holiday gift cards, and it's no wonder publishers traditionally launch a bonanza of self-help the week after Christmas -- and diet books soon soar on best-seller lists.
