First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:05 PM ET

Meet Titan, a 42-inch-tall, 190-pound Great Dane that was recently named the world's tallest dog. While well cared for, Titan does suffer from health problems (he's blind, deaf and epileptic) but his owner claims he has been seizure-less for years due to an all-natural diet.

Hey, my mom had a dog, Homer, who was half Great Dane and half Mastiff. He could put his front paws on the shoulders of a 6 foot tall man and was obviously taller. I don't know his own standing shoulder measurement. He did weigh 200 pounds tho'. He was a sweet gentle giant. RIP.

My brother would play at trying to choke him. He wouldn't even notice. His neck was solid muscle and his head was like an anvil. Once, on the beach, he found and played with a railroad tie all day, carrying it around in his powerful jaws. He had another game on the beach that was kind of dangerous. He'd go a ways off and then turn and come galloping toward you, always swerving at the last moment. If you freaked and moved the wrong way, he would knock you off your feet and into the air. Fun for all.

If that dog was 42 at the shoulder he would hit the women's armpits. Whoever measured him did not do it correctly with a wicket.. All dogs should be measured witha wicket.

He may well be 42 inches to the top of his head - but not his shoulder.
12:17 PM on 01/01/2010
That is the not even close to correct. If you say that he would hit her armpits at 42 inches tall that would make the woman less than 5 feet tall. Come on.

what? my dog is taller that that one. and my neighbors is even taller that mine. same breed though.

WHY IS THIS IN THE GREEN SECTION??
04:49 PM on 12/29/2009
Um, animals are usually found in the wild. In any case, they are closer to "GREEN" than humans, as they did not develop opposable thumbs allowing them to completely f*ck up the planet.

Maybe the article should have come under Financial news?

If he did, they should probably update the info.

Gibson died a few months ago. He had bone cancer.

The record should go to "the tallest HEALTHIEST dog".
07:45 PM on 12/28/2009
yup it should. i just hope he wasn't purposefully bred to be a giant. big dogs have so many health problems, it would be cruel to intentionally inflict that kind of harm. I know the current owner adopted him from the pound, but I wonder about his origin.
08:15 PM on 12/28/2009
Health has nothing to do with height.
04:58 PM on 12/29/2009
yes it does if it's unusually tall, like people. Gigantism has it's own specific health related issues. People w/this disorder have some health issues, including thyroid and bone problems, same as dogs.
03:24 PM on 12/28/2009
Pets are not green. We need less pets around. More dogs are bad for the environment.
