Artie Lange

TRENTON, N.J. — A publicist for Artie Lange says the comedian and radio personality has been hospitalized.

In an e-mail sent Monday to The Associated Press, publicist Hilary Hansen declined to elaborate, saying, "Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor."

The 42-year-old Lange, best known as Howard Stern's radio sidekick, has been absent from Stern's Sirius radio show for a month. On Monday's show, Stern said Lange isn't leaving the program and called him "a tremendous contributor."

Lange, who lives in Hoboken, N.J., has battled drug addiction. In September, a New Jersey judge revoked his driving privileges for seven months after he admitted he was under the influence of prescribed sleeping pills in a minor traffic accident.

When artie first joined Howard, Howard tested him and demeaned him much like he did to 'stuttering John'. Artie resisted at first but Howard over powered him. This was sad because Artie used to be a type-A individual much like his hero John Belushi. But he was never that funny so he had to sell his soul to Howard Stern. Now he hates himself.

talented end up going the way of Belushi and/or Farley. It's obvious, that is/was the path he has been on for more than a few years.

I hope that Artie has been keeping his sobriety on track and if this is a health issue it is not serious.

I recored every Stern Show from 1994 thru the early 2000's. I quit taping when Jackie Martling
left. When John left. I stoped listening.

Artie Langeis a no talent bore. He is more annoying than Robin's laugh.

His interview with Terry Gross, on Fresh Air, in November 2008 is a classic.

I think Artie has never fully recovered from the death of his father and that event is the source of his pain.

I think that is part of it, when he speaks of his father, you can hear the sdness in his voice, I think he wishes his father could've shared in his success. Thoughts go out also to Artie's family!

He blames himself for his father's death. For those who don't know, Artie used to work with his dad installing TV antennas, and part of Artie's job was to hold the ladder. Artie went away to school not long before his father fell off the ladder and became a quadriplegic. Artie feels like he should have been there holding the ladder, and if he had, his father would be alive and healthy today. As he lay in a helpless state of paralysis, dying a slow death, Artie's dad asked him more than once to put him out of his misery. Who knows what sort of turmoil that creates in a person? It's hardly surprising that Artie has demons and self-destructive tendencies. I hope he pulls through okay.

Get well, Artie--I'm a big fan. And for those of you who think that this guy is rolling in dough, he isn't. Gary as the show's producer makes a lot more. (This was the topic of a past show.) That's why he's constantly playing these small clubs. There's not a lot of big bucks for who he is and what he does.

I think Artie's biggest problem is that off-the-cuff and just informally telling a story or going into an improved, the guy is unmatched. His story-telling makes him a Mark Twain of the 21st Century, and his impressions are incredible.

But I don't think he's great at stand-up, and therein lies his problem. He's best when he is just who he is, natural, but all of that emotional and drug baggage simply comes with that.

Interesting..I guess it would depend on what you consider rolling in dough. Prior to the Stern show leaving to go to satellite, I listened each morning. Therer was a show that discussed salary. Arte at that time according to the conversation (and that was several years ago) signed a contract for at least $500k. To me although he may not be able to roll in it, he can kneed his dough over and over again...

By all accounts Artie makes over a million $ a year. He does the stand-up, because he says it is just too hard to say no to $80,000 a night, which is what he gets. Well, got...
