Beyond Left And Right: Reps. Grayson, Paul Hammer Dick Cheney (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:05 PM ET

On Monday night, former Vice President Cheney received heat for his recent attacks against President Obama from both sides of the aisle.

On MSNBC, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Florida) posited that Cheney's criticisms are just a scheme to boost book sales for his upcoming book release and tour.

"You know, honestly I think he's just trying to prime his book tour, his upcoming book tour," said Grayson. "He got $2 million to write about his memories, and he's trying to stay in the public eye in order to push sales for his book. That's what I think."

"I'm wondering, though, who's doing the introduction to his book? Is it Mephistopheles? I don't know -- maybe it's Satan." Grayson has previously wondered if the former vice president was a vampire.

Later in the evening, on "Larry King Live," Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) offered a more reserved, but still damning critique.

"He's in your party," King asked, "what about Dick Cheney's complaints?"

Paul smiled uncomfortably. "Well, I think he had his eight years and he caused a lot of trouble for our country, and he perpetuated a war in Iraq that was unnecessary and wrong headed. So I would say it would be best he not be so critical right now."

i liked ron paul until i saw him clearly state his positions on federal agencies. he stated that any program that was not created by the founding fathers should be abolished. when pressed, he clarified that, yes, that meant he would do away with the food & drug admin, ICE, the FBI, CIA, basically everything but the military.
that scared the cr.ap out of me. seriously, the FDA? it was created in response to the meat industry of the late 1800's/ early 1900's. ever read "The Jungle" by upton sinclair? ron paul wants to return to those conditions.

btw, i wonder if anyone pointed out to him that the airforce is a government program that was not created by the founding fathers?

You think Ron Paul wants to return to the conditions of Upton SinClair's the jungle? Wake up sir, we still have those conditions. I suggest you watch the movie Food Inc. to get a better understanding of where your food actually comes from.
Currently, the FDA is been basically bought by BigPharma, BigAgriculture, and fast food and seemingly has no interest in the health of the American public until pressured by the masses which are enlightened by investigative journalism. "The Jungle" is that piece of journalism, and the people responed with the FDA. Ron Paul's philosophy is that of small government, because he believes and in many cases is right, that one the government takes creates a regulatory agency or something similar, it eventually becomes clogged like American arteries. Except instead of saturated and trans fat, it is bureucracys and special interests that clogs the orginal intentions of the agency.
I do not necessarily agree with the abolishion of the FDA, however, I believe agencies like those need to be completely transparent so the people may see what companies are attempting to get us to ingest rather than getting the watered down list of possible side-effects when the product is finally approved.

unbeatable said: "I'll take my chances with Satan over Bill Ayers"

It is 2010 not 2008. That vicious campaign smear is ridiculous. Just like Willie Horton, Max Clealand, John McCain/black baby & swiftboat...all outrageous campaign smears by the Karl Rove.

Bill Ayers was protesting the vietnam war in 1968. Obama was 8 growing up in Hawaii.

Thirty years later they both served on the Chicago borad of Education. That's their only connection.

Let me guess, you heard it on Faux noise.

I'll clarify me earlier statements It seems Grayson is more interested in shock value and jokes than treat ting hr situation seriously. The reaction has been mostly "good for him!" It ;s time a Dem showed some sine!: But this isn't an act of courage. It's a totally craven act -- knocking the opposition when he's not around.

People are applauding his spunk. I just see another complainer. And one who gets in front of the cameras to do it as often as possible. Buy I didn't hear any answers.

Dens shouldn't stoop to the same level as the lowest Reps. But I guess class and dignity are no longer an option. Even on this board, invidious, and low-class snotty behavior is allowed as long as it;s directed as those who the censors deem appropriate.

Do I need to point out the irony of how perfectly that description fits Cheney's comments?

I respect Ron Paul's integrity. He is right on the national defense policy. Both Bush and Obama must learn from him.

I wonder Obama is trying to change at all.?!
