UPDATE 1/5/10 2:05PM ET: Looking for a Nexus One review now that Google has officially unveiled its new phone?

We've got the scoop on the new device with a Nexus One review roundup.

Here's what people have to say so far:

According to TechCrunch,

This is the best Android powered phone to date. It's also the fastest and most elegant smartphone on the market today, solidly beating the iPhone in most ways.

TechCrunch adds the Nexus One has "no obvious flaws or compromises."

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal writes in his Nexus One review, "It's the best Android phone so far, in my view, and the first I could consider carrying as my everyday hand-held computer."

However, he concedes the iPhone still has a few advantages, including more apps, more memory, and a more fluid user interface.

Engadget, which tested an early mode of the Nexus One, is a bit less keen. According to their review, the Nexus One Google Phone is "just another Android smartphone" -- albeit a "particularly good one."

Engadget writes,

Industry politics aside, though, the Nexus One is at its core just another Android smartphone. It's a particularly good one, don't get us wrong -- certainly up there with the best of its breed -- but it's not in any way the Earth-shattering, paradigm-skewing device the media and community cheerleaders have built it up to be.

It's a good Android phone, but not the last word -- in fact, if we had to choose between this phone or the Droid right now, we would lean towards the latter. Of course, if Google's goal is to spread Android more wide than deep, maybe this is precisely the right phone at the right time: class-leading processor, vibrant display, sexy shell, and just a sprinkling of geekiness that only Google could pull off this effortlessly.

The phone's handset, equipped with a touchscreen and described as "lustworthy", is said to rival the iPhone, Hero, and Droid in its slimness.

Wired summarizes its take on the pros and cons of the Nexus One as follows:

WIRED You can buy a Nexus One unlocked. Spiffy design. Bright screen. Runs Usain Bolt fast. The voice recognition works in virtually any text field.

TIRED Awkward syncing with computers. Lacks multitouch gestures. Considering its central placement, the trackball is rather underwhelming.

Bill Shrink has posted this handy chart comparing the Nexus One to other smartphones on the market:

Check out photos of the Nexus One below, or take a "3D tour" of the phone on Google's Nexus One website. The phone, which costs $530 at full price, will be available on T-Mobile and Verizon in the US, and on Vodafone in the EU.

Google must love Brio toys because the logo they picked for their new phone looks exactly like a kids toy called the BRIO Networkers! http://www.tiggytoysonline.com/blog/?p=130

Ordered mine, its been shipped out. Only problem is BrightPoint shipped it out with no address. BrightPoint can't change the address seeing its been shipped even though there is no address on the package and Fedex can't do anything if they don't get authorization from BrightPoint. Google Checkout not answering and HTC Nexus division can't access my purchase.

Plus BrightPoint or who ever shipped it out as Ground Delivery Home Service when its going to a business. So its going to be delivered on Saturday to an unknown address in Vermont.

Fedex can't hold the package until the first attempt is made and its more then likely going to be shipped back to BrightPoint because of no address.

I just have no idea how they can ship something out with no address?!

I'd like the opinions on this question from the geeksters out there. There are I believe a couple of phones that look like the will be released with an integrated projector. This sounds like a wonderful idea. Is this feature a reality or just hype? If it's real, is this a feature that people would want?

For 2 years, Google has carefully been following the trails of iPhone seeing their flaws and using it for BIG G's advantage, today on their official statement it's clear that Google release the nexus one phone not as an iPhone Killer but a smartphone for the whole world.

You judge now which sounds more good to you. Nexus One is something that has been waited for countries who didn't have the opportunity to have a high-end smartphone. I'm talking about asia. All questions has definetely been answered: http://bit.ly/nexus-one-official-details-and-questions

AT&T is the worst phone company in New York City, that is a given. But I suspect all the pain and suffering iPhone users experience with making a simple phone call is not solely AT&T's fault, I'm sure the iPhone is responsible for the poor phone experience as well.

iPhone is a disaster in terms of using it as an actual phone. Pretty sad.

I have to say ditto to that, but I'd put more blame on the network. I live in silicon valley and you think I would get good coverage. I get about 1/2 a bar on my IPhone. It's useless for making calls.
My Old LG on the verizon networks gets 4 bars and works great. It's also a lot cheaper to operate.

I barely use my minimal cell and consider it a nuisance mostly. Just for emergencies.
The rest of this noise is... silence.

Waiting for a plain vanilla cell phone that only makes and receives phone calls (possibly also voicemail, phone directory).
Must have clear voice quality.
Must not drop calls.
No games.
No internet.
No strange ringtones.
No text messaging.
No "apps".
NADA other than a telephone.
