Craig Ferguson Talks Leno/Conan Rumors (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:10 PM ET

With the rumors of a late night shake up at NBC swirling, Craig Ferguson didn't shy away from mocking the situation during his monologue last night. While he expressed the utmost respect for both Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien, he relished in the mess that the NBC execs had made, knowing that his own show would be safe.

He then assured the audience that he would continue to make the "crappiest late night TV show" on a consistent basis:

We'll be the ones who sucked the most. But what did we do? We sucked at the same damn time ever night.   Every night join me right here and you will get your regular dose of suck."

1. Unfortunately, if ANY of the networks moved Ferguson to 11:30 they'd also neuter his show so it would be just like all the rest.

2. But only NBC could manage to ruin his show at 12:30.

I think this situation sucks. I have to disagree with most of you and say that I love Jay Leno. No, he's not ALWAYS funny, but he is likable and....I don't know, I just really like Leno. Haven't been able to see his show lately though. I am a loyal and true fan of Conan O'Brien, he has always tickled my funny bone. His absurdist humor cracks me up every time. His 1864 baseball skit on his old Late Night show is classic as is his relationship with associate producer Jordan Schlansky (you'd have to watch, but then again, seems like no one is). Some of you find Conan too immature, but I love his brand of humor. Andy is great too, as is Max Weinberg. I think NBC should have kept Leno at Tonight and Conan at Late Night...I just don't find Fallon's show funny. And trust me, I've tried hard to find it funny. But if it wasn't for this move, I never would have noticed Craig Ferguson, because I always watched Conan instead of Craig back in the day. Craig Ferguson is a genius and I'm almost tempted to say he's my favorite late night host. But this whole debacle is infuriating. The decision makers at NBC need to go back to flipping burgers. Shoot, they might not even be good at THAT!

It would be nice to hear what monologue mocking can comefrom Jimmy Fallon or Carson Daly. Then, everyone will have their fun!

Ferguson is awesome, the new standard for late, late night; Lopez is doing a great job mixing it up with his guests; Letterman used to be my fav, and I still love the way he respects his guests, but he is getting lazy with the jokes and he ans Paul do not have the same rythm - they used to be so in sync it was tasty.

Ferguson is definitely (allowed to be) the funniest on TV right now. An early time slot seems to be the kiss of death for edgy shows. I believe Jimmy Fallon would be an awkward mess at any time, however.

LOL!

Oh I love that guy. He's a much more talented comedian than Leno or Conan.

I'd watch Craig, if I could stay up that late...

Craig Ferguson has true wit and lightening fast. He shines at interacting with people. (His skits are only so-so, however.) Wit with depth of character.

I don't watch Leno because he often makes jokes at his guest's expense. (Carson never did; Leno should have learned from him.) Too smug. His smugness dilutes his humor.

Letterman? He's long ago lost his midwestern "good guy" appeal, which was refreshing. More caustic, less funny.

In my opinion, Ferguson is the best by far.

Craig Ferguson is the best on late night right now... and Dave is no spring chicken. I can see Craig taking over for Letterman at 11:30 whenever Dave eventually steps down.

Does Mrs Ferguson like the vulgar jokes about 'sucking'!? I think she would be a bit ticked off at her husband.

She who? What are you talking about?

Whatl do you care? Guy's doing his job, and doing it well, he doesn't come down to the Taco Bell you work at and get all up in your face about if your mom likes the way you make tacos right?

Here's my preferences -

Craig Ferguson - Funny man, whose show does NOT suck.
Conan O'Brien - Whose humor may be a little too edgy for the Leno bunch. And that sucks, but Conan does not.
Letterman - Whose show sometimes sucks and sometimes doesn't, but was the most watchable of the time slot's previous line-up. Which probably sucks for Dave - being damned with faint praise.
Jimmy Kimmel - Conspicuously absent in the comments I've read - ? His show sucks mostly because of the level of immaturity, but it's.watchable if nothing else is on (never happens),
Jay Leno - Never watched him late night (unless by accident while passing through) and don't see any reason to start now, not in any time slot. Will be even LESS inclined to watch (if that's possible) if they mess up Conan to save teh Leno wreckage. Does that suck?
Jimmy Fallon - Didn't even make the list. Probably a nice guy, but he just sucks.

I'm a 58-yr-old female...What demographic am I?

Mine are more -

Craig Ferguson because he's just plain hilarious.
Conan O'Brien because he interacts well with his guests and isn't afraid to be tall or redheaded. lol
David Letterman because I like his street cam stuff and his top ten lists.
Jay Leno because I like his street cam stuff, but that's about it.

I haven't seen any others, and haven't even seen any of these for quite some time, since I can't get local channels right now, even though I used to with my antenna, even after the digital change, until someone screwed things up at the stations, and they now tell me to go buy an outdoor antenna. lol The programming isn't worth that much money.

I've always enjoyed Ferguson's work, on Drew Carey, his movies and especially his late night show. From the beginning I've felt he was the best late night host. But there is one thing, and maybe it's just me, but I am beginning to get turned off by all the disparaging remarks he makes about his own show. I assume it's all in fun, but lately it seems to be becoming more and more of the show. And I find myself skipping the show because of it. I still think Craig is the funniest guy, and a lot of the bits are hysterical (the 1000th episode was one of the best things I have ever seen on TV), but his put-downs of the show, and this is just my own opinion, seem to be changing the tone of the show. Wonder if anyone else feels this way?

It's a British thing. All the talk show hosts there put down the cheapness of their sets, etc. You mock yourself to show that success hasn't gone to your head, so the press doesn't do it for you.

I LOVE Craig Ferguson! He is the funniest man on TV as far as I'm concerned. I've always thought Letterman was a jerk; he was at his best when W was in office and made a wonderful, ongoing, target. Now he's really scraping that barrel bottom. Leno is okay; he's never been my first choice. I don't watch much TV especially late at night, but when I can I check out Craig, and I love to watch his videos here on HP.

I love his self-deprecating, outrageous yet un-mean kind of comedy. You can see he actually is using his natural talent and brain unlike all the very formulaic mega-ego-hosts such as Leno, Letterman, etc. Kudos to him and I hope he stays where he is 'cause I don't want him to change.
