The MSM is afraid to ask real questions because then they won't get the choice guests. They are cowards through and through.

If NBC wants to "specifically" boost their ratings for MTP, then hire on Rachel Maddow. Not only is she intelligent but she could hold her own with any guest and ask relevant questions, besides, 'bout time ANY Sunday TV news outlet consider a woman for the spot. Talk about a glass ceiling.

During the 2000 campaign, on the days just after Bush's drunk-driving arrest story broke and was finally admitted to by the Bush campaign, CSpan broadcast, inadvertently I'd guess, an interesting exchange on an airport tarmac between Karen Hughes and David Gregory of CNBC.

Hughes had just briefed the reporters who were assigned to the Bush campaign. They had all dispersed, leaving Hughes and Gregory alone on the tarmac in front of the Bush campaign's plane. The two of them were alone with CSpan's camera, which was still rolling; I don't think Hughes realized that they were still on the air.

Gregory asked her (and these are exact quotes) "Has the Governor (Bush) ever been arrested for DRUGS?"

Hughes thought for a good 10 seconds. She actually closed her eyes to think as she formulated a response, at which point she opened her eyes, looked at David Gregory and said, "The Governor has admitted to 'youthful indiscretions'."

Gregory wrote it down and said nothing more. He didn't report on it that night, or the next, or ever as far as I know.

David Gregory sold his soul for career security. In the years since, from softball questions at Bush's press conferences to an obviously inappropriate relationship with Karl Rove, he's eliminated himself from consideration as a legitimate, serious journalist.

Gregory is pretty much the human incarnation of the feather fluttering about in the opening of "Forrest Gump"

(oh... I stand corrected, the feather didn't do cooking segments on the "Today" show)

Lawrence O'Donnell, now there's somebody who would make Sunday politics worth watching.

I don't know who David Gregory got that job, but someone had to being doing drugs. Lawrence O'Donell would be great in that time show because he is not afraid to call a liar a liar and does his home work. David Gregory should go back to whatever horse stable he broke out of.

Hey NBC! If you want a ratings boost, find a permanent slot for Lawrence O'Donnell. The man is a fearless enemy of the slick and the comfortably complacent. I'd offer the gods a year of my life for an hour - or however long it would take to dismantle her and her nonsense - of him one on one with Sarah Palin.

"Booking Wars??" All the alphabet networks have the same 2-3 people on each one of their shows, each week. It's really become quite boring.

Agreed. All are boring.

David Gregory is a joke and a media tool. Dancing with Karl Rove...what a f'ng embarrassment, yet he's proud of it. This closeted gay man has no backbone...not that there's anything wrong with being gay, just that he's closeted and has no backbone. He's the definitioin of a tool.

I used to go to Church on Sunday mornings but because of the hypocrisy of the 'family values' and church going crowd I decided it wasn't for me. I watched David Gregory about three times and decided it wasn't for me. I watched the other political Sunday shows and decided they weren't for me. I let Jason Linkins tell me what the talking heads are all about.
I now watch CBS's Sunday Morning and love it.
11:05 AM on 01/11/2010
Yup. Now I watch Sunday Morning on CBS and skip the political shows.

It's too bad this is all they could come up with after Tim died. He's way too "gotcha" for my taste. He's always got that Cheshire cat look when he thinks he's asked a clever question. He's a boor.

Yeah, that'd be fair-and-balanced.

It would be fair, her opinion may not be balanced to your liking but I have yet to see her turn down a difficult interview from an opposing side.

Ground control to Major (David) Tom, that picture of you on stage with MC Rove is etched in the public
memory (perhaps forever) and it also made a statement about you (lightweight) need more proof,
check the rating for meet the press.
04:36 PM on 01/08/2010
Exactly! It proved Gregory didn't really care about the crimes committed by the Bushies, but rather being one of "their" boys. He's the kind of guy who would sell his mother out for a job promotion.

In the last paragraph of the interview, he says that the Christmas Day terrorist attack attempt was flubbed, this is why he is a poor interviewer, It left the reader thinking which part was flubbed, the fact that it failed or the fact that information wasn't connected. He does not define his points and it happens weekly.

He does not ask hard questions of his guests and when they reply with talking points and fabrications, he does not nail them on it, he goes to another question. Tim Russert would never have let them off, he would have had them red faced and apologizing at the same time. He is no where near the caliber of interviewer or intellect of Tim Russert.

He is not the person to have that show, he is a journalist, not an interviewer.
04:35 PM on 01/08/2010
He's not even a journalist.

FANNED! David Gregory needs to go far, far away; as far away as he has gone from the truth.

Lawrence O'Donnell is the man to hire for the job. He would do Tim Russert's memory proud, and he is a bang up journalist to boot!
