Artie Lange

popeater.com:

Though shock jock Stern vowed to keep quiet about Lange's condition during his Sirius Satellite Radio show Monday, he lifted the ban Thursday night.

"I would love to know who the scumbag is who releases that to the press, because this is a private matter," Stern said. "I don't know what to say. I work with Artie, I love Artie. Everyone has their demons, including myself, but he's wrestling with some serious stuff ... When I heard the news it was too much to bear."

But Stern had no problem when he made fun of the death of that beautiful singer Selena. Can't have it both ways Howie.

When he really was a rebel it was good and that's what got him to where he is today. Now it's all hollow and hypocritical.

Artie has no business being on that show. It is only enabling his demons. He should have been given the boot a long time ago. If not for anything else than his own good.

He didn't know Selena personally and that does make a difference.

I'm sorry about Artie Lange, but Howard Stern is hardly one to complain about "media intrusion." He makes a living off of stuff like this.

I hope he gets well. Anyone who talks as badly about people as Lange does, couldn't have liked himself so much. This is proof, I suppose.
As far as Stern's comments go, it isn't always a good thing to keep things hushed up. It is easier to get help if people know you need help. It is classic dysfunction to keep everything a secret. And, some have said it is sort of hypocritical for Stern to say such things when he has always gossiped about others, often in unflattering ways.

Stern still doesn't give Steve Dahl the credit for his genre

Lets see, one of the most exploitative radio shows out there, and abusive of others private lives, but when its on of his own its off limits. Can't have it both ways Howard. Sounds just like Sarah complaining about the kids after using them as publicity magnets? Double standards seem to have become the new standard.

Very funny Howie. When you set the standards for decency......the end is near.

Artie is a dbag. More cries for attention and Stern and Artie will be making money from this. Pathetic really. Use a g.u.n net time Artie.

Howard Stern was sued for joking about a dead stripper's remains and encouraging her ex-boyfriend to gobble the ashes, an appeals court has ruled. The siblings of topless dancer Deborah Roach, whom Stern dubbed the "Space Lesbian" when she appeared on his show, sued the broadcaster in 1997 for $8 million.

And Stern has the nerve to criticize others for reporting on his friend.

Howard Sterno now is invoking the tired celeb cliche 'respect their privacy in a moment of difficulty'---excuse me?? This man has made his career exposing, ranting about and ridiculing celeb scandals of all kinds for Decades. This is EXACTLY the sorta thing he has made his fortune on.

You are being a hypocrite Stern. WAH. You don't like this? don't be in the biz or don't do it, better yet.

I will never be able to think of Stern or any of his crew as anything but utterly despicable degenerates.

The very first time I heard Stern on the radio is the day after R. Budd Dwyer (sp) Pa Star treasurer shot himself at a press conferance in the mid late 80's.Stern and his crew played the audio over and over again laughing their heads off. So now that something has happend to one of his "friends" this is a private matter? Hes right it is a private family matter just like some the other private family matters that he and his crew have made fun of over the years. How does it feel Howard? Sucks dont it?

It's legal and not all that unusual for celebrity suicide attempts to be reported (Kelly Osbourne, Owen Wilson, etc.). So news outlets can't really be chided now for doing so again.

Still, it can't be good for anyone who is in such psychological peril to have to face the prying eyes and relentless attention of the media and the public, when they emerge from the hospital.

Anyone close to a person who had attempted suicide is likewise protective of that loved one, who is in delicate condition and doesn't need to be hounded or torn apart in the media.

Stern seemed to be speaking not as his on-air persona, but as a person defending a loved one. I can definitely empathize with his feelings.

Stabbing one's self to death. That's a painful way. Whatever happened to overdosing and hangings?

I know, who stabs themselves to death? It's more of a cry for help than a suicide attempt.
Hope he gets help with his demons.
03:53 PM on 01/09/2010
elliot smith stabbed himself like 27 times or something insane like that

I dont think stabbing ones self to death is a cry for help... especially when you have 3 deep plunges, and 6 hesitation wounds

the only reason he is probably still alive is that he is overweight and couldnt penetrate to a depth in which to do massive damage to an organ. Still he laid there bleeding to death for god knows how long

I'm going to guess that there were drugs involved. It would be hard to stab yourself repeatedly without some kind of chemical enhancement.
