Obama Billboard

Well, that didn't take long. Jacket company Weatherproof, who raised some White House eyebrows by using the president as their pitchman in a huge Times Square billboard, has agreed to take the ad down. In two weeks.

According to the Associated Press:

Freddie Stollmack, the president of Weatherproof, told The Associated Press he'd heard from the White House and decided to cooperate with its request to halt the ad campaign. But he says it will take some time. He aims to remove the Times Square billboard and another one on the Long Island Expressway by Jan. 22, after figuring out a new ad campaign.

"The White House has a longstanding policy disapproving of the use of the president's name and likeness for commercial purposes," said White House spokesman Ben LaBolt in a written statement.

Stollmack had previously said Weatherproof got permission from the Associated Press to use the image.

"We're always looking to raise the image of Weatherproof, and what better way to do that than with the president of the United States wearing our coat?" he told Fox News.

Of course, this controversy brought the company publicity that ad dollars just can't buy.

Quick Poll

Do you think Weatherproof had the right to use Obama as their model?

Yes. Obama wore the jacket, which is a form of endorsement.

No. The president's image shouldn't be used in advertisements.

Sure. It may be a sleazy publicity stunt, but the president looked damn good in that jacket.
