Post ClimateGate, PolluterWatch Takes On The Corporate PR Machine

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:10 PM ET

Juliet Eilperin:

A new guerrilla green operation has begun.

PolluterWatch, the brainchild of the advocacy group Greenpeace, is taking direct aim at major corporations who emit greenhouse gases and other pollutants. They're not just going after the companies themselves, but their hired guns and allies. (In the words of Greenpeace U.S. research director Kert Davies, those would be "their hired propagandists and influence peddlers.")

On the way home I stopped at the local Ford-dealership and asked about the availability of the Ford Focus with a fuel-cell-engine. Pre-order I could right now, delivered it will be in 2012. Which is earlier than I expected, considering the obstacles. The dealerships and service centers will provide the hydrogen-refills until there's an infrastructure.
If Ford beats Toyota, then my respect to their market savvy. They know now what's in store for the whole national economy if they are not going into the race aiming for the win.
The comments of the White House that FC-tech is 20 years away and that its research deserves no federal funding has been proven false. Shame.

Prince Bandar have the gall to cast political aspersions descriptive of their own heritage on inquisitive climatologists. Funny- strange that.

" The Daily Mail, a peer reviewed...no.... The Daily Mail, a prestigious science journal... no.. The Daily Mail, a British TABLOID noted for supporting facism in the 1930's....is apparently still loyal to the petro interests of the world. "

Citing the Daily Mail for a science paper would win you a big "F" in any science class that wasn't preaching flat earth or intelligent design concepts.

Can't you do any better than that guys? Come on......

The mini ice age starts here

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.

One non-scientific newspaper article debunks the entirety of scrutinized scientific literature from the scientific consensus of climate change?

A bit like the newspapers during Darwin's time posting non-scientific "evidence" denying evolution.

Never fear. The scientist in question has set the record straight. I particularly like his quote at the end about relativity.

Of course, this won't stop them from continuing to use the now debunked article as gospel for the next several months. :-)

So the environmental lobby funding climate research is OK, not biased. Because I'm sure they'd pay for research results that hurt their cause.

There is no evidence of global warming and the temperature record is unreliable except of course that we know what that it was warm in medieval England and that means that the whole world was warmer, everywhere, back then, and the Vikings were playing in Greenland and raising grapes too and the Antarctic ice is growing and the glaciers are not melting except in some places which is why the ice cave man fell out of the glacier and there is no consensus and besides it doesn’t mean anything if there is a consensus but the consensus of scientists writing to the president is against and besides Pluto and Uranus are warming too even though we haven’t seen a complete year of their orbit in our lifetime and nobody is out there calibrating Uranus thermometers (tee hee) and can I have my check from Exxon Mobile please now? Thanks and have a great day!

Do you like science statistics? Me too! Here is a cool one! The sea ice extent for December 2009 [ Just last month!] was over a third of a million square miles BELOW the average for 1979 to 2000!

Of course, that is just a one point statistic and you can't draw a trend from that, but it sounds impressive doesn't it? You betcha!!

And surface area doesn't reflect how thick the ice is does it.... it might be a foot thick now where it used to be 30 feet thick thirty years but who cares!!!! Go for impressive meaningless superficial statistics and huddle together like a bunch of musk oxen!!! You betcha!!!

If you act now, along with the Ginzu knives and the a free tin foil hat we will throw in, ABSOLUTELY FREE free of charge the UN-Conspiracy tapes with those classic diatribes like " Its Cold in Waga Waga, therefore its cold everywhere else too!" and that truly classic song by the worlds mysterious, un-named emminent climate scientists , " The CRU data has been tampered with, but it shows that the world is cooling!!!"

This offer is too good to be true and won't last past April but if you act now, in addition to all the above, we will throw in "The un-named, un-warranted accusations of Blither!", a song sure to warm the cockles of Exxon Mobile stock holders everywhere!

Seems to be giving you trouble today.

These oil guys all own the Climate Change trademark anyway. They have enough money, and power to hedge their bets. They have to. They know their product will not last forever.

The UN admits it was wrong about the warming and admits a cooling period is in place.

So much for the Cap & Tax rip off. The poor countries that already fell for the hoax and started paying carbon taxes years ago for nothing.

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.

Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in
summer by 2013.

According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.
North Pole

The scientists’ predictions also undermine the standard climate computer models, which assert that the warming of the Earth since 1900 has been driven solely by man-made greenhouse gas emissions and will continue as long as carbon dioxide levels rise.

Step right up! Buy your reassurance that the world as we know it is not gradually heating up from SUV exhaust! Step right up! The decade of 2000-2009 was the warmest on record, warmer than 1990-1999 ! but step right up and hear George Will reassure you that the world is cooling! Step right up! That's right! The US of A is only 1.9% of the worlds surface but if we are cooling, then the rest of the planet must have cooled for the last 30 years so you can forget about those "alarmists"! Step right up and get reassured that petroleum is the Fuel of the Future!!!!!! Step right up! You Betcha! Drill baby driiiiilllllll!!!!!!!

BTW, any denialists care to comment on how the Lindzen paper that " disproved" global warming is now being getting thoroughly trashed in the peer reviewed literature?

Who in their right mind would propose risking the ecosystem of a continental shelf for some SUV juice? A greedy corporatist shill on behalf of their ruling class shareholders.

Thanks for asking the question, hellboundtrain; you're fanned.

There was just a commercial on the telie for one of the oil (energy) companies and the woman announcer said that with the new technologies they could safely drill seven miles off the coast and go a mile down for the oil for your car (I may have transposed those numbers accidentally) anyway, I think, who, in their right mind, would put the world through this to obtain a substance that is relatively easily supplanted with safer, ultimately cheaper options?

Incorrect, restricted, thinking would allow us to believe that we must make the same mistakes now, as we had made in the past in order to get to the future.
