Shirataki Noodles were touted today on The Rachel Ray Show as a food that must be tried for a healthier lifestyle in 2010.

Shirataki Noodles, Chef Rocco DiSpirito explained on the show, are made from yam and boast no calories and no carbs. They don't even need to be cooked, as they're ready out of the bag with hot water or broth.

Wondering where to buy Shirataki Noodles? The "miracle noodles" can be purchased on the Web at a site appropriately called "Miracle Noodle."

Shirataki Noodles can also be purchased at several Asian food stores and natural food stores, as well as a growing number of local grocery stories.

Select locations of retailers that carry Shirataki Noodles include Ralphs, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Sunset Foods and New Seasons Market.

This article is inaccurate. I just read the wiki... there's a very big difference between "no calories and no carbs" with low calories and low carbs.

It it has NO calories... then it's water!

Miracle noodles are all well and good but what do they taste like? If theyre inedible, you wont eat them. End of miracle.

They are actually really tasty. Taste like any other noodle. The consistency is difference - spongier. I love them. The only downside is that they are expensive.

...which would be great, if only they tasted like anything you're supposed to put in your mouth. I tried the miracle noodle a few years ago, rinsed them extensively like everyone says you're supposed to do, and found them inedibly disgusting. That's coming from someone who was raised in the South, eating pretty much everything that would fit under gravy, and now follows a vegan diet, so you know my threshold for "inedibly disgusting" is pretty high.

I am a little suspicious of this product. It seems super-processed and wiki says it can be stored for a year. That doesn't seem right to me. I'll look into it deeper but it seems a little to good to be true.
