Shopping in Boulder could get a little greener if several New Vista High School and University of Colorado students have their way.
Inspired by a "taking civic action" class and a ban that passed in San Francisco in 2007, the Boulder students are drafting an ordinance that would prohibit businesses -- such as grocery stores -- from using petroleum-based plastic bags.
The students still are ironing out details of their proposal, including which businesses would have to ditch the bags and when the new law would go into effect. They're hopeful to have a clearer proposal by the end of February, when they plan to meet with Boulder City Council members.
