The governor's office and lawmakers this week plan on announcing plans for legislation that would increase the state's renewable energy standard, the Denver Daily News has confirmed.
Lawmakers would not discuss details of the proposal, stating that a formal announcement will be made this week after details are hashed out. But it appears the measure would increase the state's renewable energy portfolio standard to as high as 30 percent by 2020.
The issue has been a focal point for Gov. Bill Ritter and his New Energy Economy, who pushed for the state's current renewable energy standard of 20 percent by 2020.
