Sonim XP1, 'Unbreakable' Cell Phone, Broken By Reporter At CES 2010 (VIDEO)

Memo to Sonim CEO Bob Plaschke: don't claim your company's latest cell phone, the Sonim XP1, is unbreakable unless you've subjected it to every possible stress test.

At CES 2010 Plaschke confidently told reporter Dan Simmons, on camera, that one could drop the Sonim XP1 from a 10-story building, submerge it under 20 feet of water for up to 30 minutes, and hammer a nail into it, and it will still work just fine. Plaschke boasted to Simmons, "If you find a way to break it, we're going to give you a free phone."

Simmons dunks it underwater, but to no avail. He then pulls it out and gleefully begins smashing the screen against the sharp corner of the tank. After about the third smash the screen cracks, the phone breaks, and a shocked Plaschke can only say, "You've actually broken the phone. That's impressive. That's absolutely impressive."
