Blake Griffin Out For Season Injury

Blake Griffin, the first overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, will miss the remainder of the season. Below is the press release from the Los Angeles Clippers.

After experiencing some discomfort during his recently-accelerated rehabilitation program, Clippers' forward Blake Griffin was examined Tuesday afternoon by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.

As a result of that examination, it has been determined that the healing in his left patella area has not improved to the expected required level. Griffin will undergo a surgical procedure in the near future, with a recovery prognosis of four to six months. Team personnel will be made available to the media. Further details will be made available as events develop.

Previously on December 23rd, after undergoing a CT Scan and MRI Griffin had been cleared to increase his rehabilitation workload.

Griffin, the first overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft, suffered a non-displaced stress fracture of his left patella during the Clippers' last preseason game vs. the New Orleans Hornets on Friday, October 23rd.

On behalf of all Blazer fans, I'd like to say, "stop crying."

Hey, Clips, trade you Oden?

At least it isn't some career ending nastiness like what happened to Shaun Livingston.

The first thing you do if you're the number #1 pick in the draft by the Clippers is find an insurance agent and buy the largest insurance policy you can.

This is an example of why young men should NOT have to wait to enter the pros if they have the ability. Even he can't play again, he'll earn enough money to secure his financial future. It's really unconstitutional to force a person to wait--even one year--to pursue their desired livelihood. BUt it's ok for them to join the army right out of high school to fight in an unjust war.

I agree totally. Let's call the major universities what they really are, FARM SYSTEMS! I'm an ex-Buckeye football player who is now a Commercial Plumber. Love my Bucks, but I was 5'6", 132lbs. coming out my Sr. year of high school, when I graduated from Ohio St. after the diets of 7,500 calories, animal packs(a multitude of vitamins), weight training, etc., I left at 6'0", 198lbs.!!!!! My whole red shirt year I was made to eat, workout & even defecate on schedule for the sole purpose of football.(Of course I loved it though! -_-) But I pray Blake takes his time & gets healthy! Don't rush!

Not against guys coming out but there is an insurance option for the truly talented and getting a college degree is almost always a good thing.

Unconstitutional? Um, what? This doesn't involve the constitution because it's a contract between two private parties. One party may require any actions before a contract may be entered into. As long as those requirements aren't specifically prohibited by law -- racist, sexist, etc -- pretty much anything goes. Living one's livelihood is not a constitutional protection; I'm prevented from going out and buying a Lambo even though I think my livelihood demands one because of that silly contractual provision that it costs $300,000. I can't go to federal court and make the dealer rescind that contractual requirement.

Simply saying that you have to spend a year in college before going to the pros is not something that can reasonably be prohibited. I believe the NFL has a similar requirement.

There are, of course, multiple practical reasons why the requirement is idiotic but unconstitutional it is not.

Bringing up the army is a red herring. The army may choose to require young men to go through a year of college before signing up but doesn't.

I wasn't being literal. yes, I realize that there's no provisions in the US Constitution that covers this type of contractual issue.

That's just bad luck because this guy can really play. I hope he can comeback next season ready to go.

Clippers and Trail Blazers, the two most cursed franchises in basketball. Even when they make the right pick, it's wrong.

Ummm, Blazers have a championship and a couple of other memorable teams who played deep into the playoffs. The Clippers have neither.

It's more an injury issue than it is a winning issue.

Would draft Tyreke Evan's as the clear #1 rookie now, given this injury.
