Handbags Get Lighter As Technology Becomes Smaller

The average handbag currently weighs 3.3 lbs, 57 percent less than it weighed two years ago, the Daily Mail UK reports, and researchers claim that smaller technology has contributed to the decrease in purse size.

Bag weight peaked at 7.7 lbs in 2006 and 2007 when women began carrying bulky laptops. However, personal computers, filofaxes and huge mobile phones have now been replaced by much lighter smart phones and MP3 players.

The same study found that the rest of a women's purse weight can be attributed to make up, mirrors, tissues, perfumes, brushes, toothpaste, receipts, address books and headache pills.
