Urban Meyer Reacts To Lane Kiffin Hiring (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:10 PM ET

This clip has been floating around the web since shortly after the news broke that Lane Kiffin was leaving Tennessee to coach football at USC. In the below video, former (and possibly future) Florida football coach Urban Meyer, who built the Gators' championship squads, purportedly reacts with shocked amusement when he learns of Kiffin's promotion and departure. Meyer and Kiffin publicly feuded this fall.

Of course, Meyer's reaction appears all the more civil when compared to those of Tennessee fans, who rioted at the Knoxville campus and defaced a school landmark.

I would NOT allow my son to play on a team led by this religious n u t c a se Urban Meyer

He should keep his religion to himself...no one wants to hear about it or have him influence their child

They didn't "deface" a school landmark. The Rock is open for students to paint how they choose.

Cool!

"We need to have complete attention on making sure that we are running this program with great discipline, and that we are in compliance with all the rules," Kiffin said. "And I don't know that I could have done that 14 months ago"...then the USC quarterback goes and gives Kiffin his first NCAA violation by saying "I've known Lane since I was a freshmen in High School...he recruited me." Ooops!

I have been to Tennessee many times, and it is beautiful.
However, they have earned their reputation as gap-toothed hillbillies who pork their cousins, and park cars on their front yard...

I'll take Los Angeles any day, and so will Lane Kiffin...

As someone who lives in Knoxville, I can completely understand the students of my Alma Mater's reactions to a coach leaving them with a recruiting mess and emerging scandals, without even the decency to have a real press conference, or discuss the matter with his players or the Athletic Director. It is therefore, bigoted, rude, and unconscionable to refer to us as "gap-toothed hillbillies who pork our cousins". As one of the top state schools in the country, and the location of the Y-12 nuclear plant whose research helped usher in the modern era, UT's students are definitely not hillbillies, but concerned and betrayed fans upset over the scurrilous behavior of a coach who promised us a lot and delivered very little. The people of east Tennessee are hardworking individuals who care deeply about the young men who play for our football team, and believe that they deserve deserve the same respect and loyalty from their coach that they show him.

Do you pull for Bloods or Crips during the off season?

Is it bad that I'm more upset his hot wife is leaving that him? By going he's likely saving UT from many, many NCAA violations. Good luck USC. I hope you play UT in Knox soon...

Only in tennessee would hanging out at a ROCK be a good time. Lets see, raise my family in a double wide in Knoxville and visit Dollywood for a big weekend or raise my family in Los Angeles and go to Disneyland or Hollywood and live in an 8 bedroom mansion? The equivilent of BBQ vs Ruths Chris, Bud vs Grey Goose. Kiffin is one lucky dude.

I'd take BBQ any day!

Me too, not a UT fan but you can have California

I'm not terribly sure you understand real estate prices. Granted, he'll likely be making more at USC but housing-wise, your money goes a lot further in the hills of TN than it does on the west coast.

And yes, I to would take BBQ, the Appalachians, and the environment in Knox over LA any day.

I'm getting tired of this "defacing a school landmark" crap. That is what The Rock is there for. THAT IS IT'S PURPOSE. For students to write on/ paint on/ throw beer cans at/ etc. Its a wonderful outlet ...
My favorites were when ESPN Gameday showed up it would ususally have something along the lines of "ITS GAMEDAY. F*CK ESPN" ... or when someone painted a picture of their own vagina. That one stayed up for WEEKS!

Yea, I've painted the rock on multiple occasions as a freshmen and sophomore while in my fraternity, and left both comical and obscene marks up there. The University just puts a fresh coat of white paint over everything when it gets too bad.
