Angel Brito, a 49-year-old police officer who served at Bellevue Hospital for 14 years, passed away on November 4th.
The New York Post reports that because he didn't have family to claim him, Brito's body lay in the morgue for more than two months before his friends and colleagues decided to help.
Brito's fellow officers raised $1,900 to give him a final service at the Ortiz Funeral Home. "This poor man in the morgue and no one claims his body," said a childhood friend, William Gomez. "I thought of him and I saw one of my kids."
