Web sites and mobile phones are helping individuals to contribute record amounts to Haiti relief efforts. Since launching it's mobile fundraiser on Tuesday, The Red Cross has raised over $10 million for the cause.
Though Text-To-Give donations may be held for up to 90 days before they reach their intended organization, these funds are essential to helping groups continue their work in Haiti, which will last far beyond this first week.
As HuffPost's Technology editor Jose Antonio Vargas wrote yesterday, new media and technology played a crucial role in dispersing information and funneling donations to nonprofits that will use them in relief efforts. Facebook and Twitter provided consistent updates and encouraged people to give online or via cell phone.
