MADRID — Police say they rescued a woman who was trapped for eight days in an elevator in her house in northeastern Spain.

Police said Friday they were alerted by relatives of the 45-year-old woman who said they had not been able to contact her for five days.

Officers on Tuesday heard the woman's cries for help as soon as they opened the door of her three-floor house, located in an isolated area on the outskirts of the coastal town of Sitges, near Barcelona.

Police said the woman, who lived alone, was distraught and suffering from dehydration. She was taken to a hospital.

Police believe the lift broke down because of an electrical problem.

That's what you get for using an elevator in a 3 story building. Use the stairs, it's quicker.....much quicker in her case.

Maybe she had a scooter or a chair...that doesn't climb stairs...or maybe she is unable to climb stairs?

Did you read the article? It was a private home in an isolated area. Using your logic, she could have fallen down the stairs and broken her hip, back, or leg. So don't use the stairs or elevator. I guess she could just fly from floor to floor.

Pedro Almodovar can make a movie about this and focus on the woman's relationships.

I wholeheartedly recommend "Broken Embraces".
