Well, Gervais didn't impress me. His opening monologue was sort of insulting.

His entire performance is a tribute to the current culture of mockery and humiliation that passes for humor these days. The bloke a few posts down calls it the best of parody and seems to value it as high-brow humor.

Others might have noticed that the host is not exactly connecting with the audience in the hall nor, I'd bet, with the producers, directors and members of the Golden Globe press association. Ha!

Insulting to who? People who really need to get brought down the Earth? Cry me a river. Probably the best intro to an award show because the American audience didn't know what to expect or how to react.

No question, the awards show are hideously pompous and self-congratulatory. But it's their show and their industry and a GG host who totally trashes the people in the audience as well as the people who make up the Hollywood Foreign press strikes me a s bit, let's say, ungrateful to the entire industry Gervais wishes to be a part of.

Anyway, what makes you think you are any arbiter of who should be brought down to earth? They are the people who have no doubt given you at least some small pleasure watching their work. Or perhaps you don't like movies.
