“OT -

I found a reputable charity, where you can sponsor a Haitian orphan from $15.00 per month.

It's called SOS Children's Villages. If you click on the link, you can find information about the charity.

https://secure2.convio.net/scv/site/Donation2?df_id=5140&5140.donation=form1

Please pass the link on to anyone you think might be interested.

I will be sponsoring from their UK website -

http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk/sponsor-a-child/americas/haiti

I know there may be better charities, but after searching for days, this was the only one I could find, that met the following criteria.

1. The money will go to help a child in Haiti.
2. The amount of money you pay can be as little as $15.00 (most of the other charities were $28.00 - $35.00 per month), therefore, people who do not have a lot of money to spare, can get involved.
3. The aim of the charity is not to bring the children up in one, or other, religious denomination, but to feed, clothe, educate, and keep them with families, in their own surroundings, until adoption can be arranged.
4. The charity enables you to help long-term, rather than "Donate Now."

I really did spend days trying to find a charity that will allow some of us (on HuffPo), who don't have much money, to help (in a small way), on a long-term basis.

I think what everyone around the world is doing is great. I am always proud to see those in the entertainment industry step up as they alway seem to do; but I have wondered where is the COUNTRY MUSIC industry and their musicians and artists???? I think during Katrina we only saw Garth Brooks in Central Park with his wife. I got the feeling he personally organized that benefit concert himself. The ONLY country artist I saw on the Hope for Haiti telecast was Taylor Swift (God Bless her) Where is VINCE GILL, and his wife Amy? Where is ALiSON KRAUS? Where is BROOKS AND DUNN, where is GAC, Country Music Hall of Fame? I never see them come out. You always see the Rockers new and old, the poets, the Actors - never The Country Artists who spend have their careers preaching God and Goodwill. WHAT HYPOCRITES!

I’m glad Sting shaved his beard. Everyone looked so respectable; no wardrobe malfunctions! Except for that one lady singing “Let it beâ€, why would you sing a song like that at a disaster relief benefit concert? If you’re inclined to “let it be†you may as well stay home and do nothing! Don’t let it be, that’s why you’re there! Oh yea; Cohen should smack Timberlake for butchering “Hallelujahâ€; it’s a hymn, an anthem, you don’t sing it like a passy! (that’s right I said: passy!)

Just received my pre-ordered CD from the telethon... It is absolutely beautiful! I will cherish it always and listen often.

Please don't forget our brothers and sisters in Haiti. They will need us for a long time to come.

Peace...

Good work to all those who helped out with the telethon! Whether it is for 9/11 or Haiti, or the next major disaster, Americans should be proud of themselves for doing what is right.

Maybe now those cranks who run Wall Street will ante up and give money as well. God knows they should...

Can there be any doubt left re: FOX's true political agenda and loyalty after refusing to give up two hrs of their Friday night space to show the telethon? Aren't most their viewers dancing across sawdust and ordering their dinner through a window?

We should also insist on ‘Planned Parenthood†clinics to be opened up throughout the country. Condoms, morning after pills and education classes should play a big part of the clinics. Oops I forgot, it can’t happen, Gawd and the catholic church in Haiti would never allow it. That’s insanity, when oh when will this kind of “mid-evil†thinking go the way of the dinosaurs?

This is all well and good but I feel there is a greater need in our own cities and rural America. Wake up America! We should have our own telethon keeping schools, homeless shelters and soup kitchens from closing. Unfortunately a good deal of the money thrown at Haiti will go into the pockets of local official and dictators. We might as well take it over while we are down there.

You need to take a deep breath.

I agree that there are a lot of places in the US that need our help, as well. I'm pretty sure there are American citizens in LA and MS that still don't have adequate homes, schools and other resources yet, four and a half years later.

My contribution to the Haiti effort was minimal; I continue to put money and effort into Katrina recovery.

What is name of the Sting song?
01:54 PM on 01/23/2010
the song is called "Driven to Tears" It's from when he first left the Police, and hooked up with Branford, Omar, and Kenny Kirkland. I don't remember if it was on the Blue Turtles album, but it is on the Bring on the Night live CD, as well as the movie

It was just reported by the Canadian Press that a 1 hour Canadian version of Hope for Haiti which aired in Canada one hour before the American version raised as of this morning $16 million dollars. This is in addition to the $24 million donated since the tragedy hit. From a country with only 33 million that is pretty impressive and generous. The money raised is being matched by the Canadian Government, in additon to the $80 Million already allocated by the Canadian feds.

Come world...let's keep it going. This money is going to need to needed for days, months and years to come....

We had our own Telethon in Quebec (in French) and we raised 6 million. Not bad for 7 million people.
I am very proud of Quebecers too.
