STONEHAM, Mass. -- The brother of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan has been charged with assaulting their 70-year-old father, who was found dead over the weekend in the family's Massachusetts home.
Woburn District Court Clerk John Teevan says 45-year-old Mark Kerrigan faces arraignment Monday on a charge of assault and battery on a person over 60 that resulted in injuries. Teevan identified the victim of the assault as Daniel Kerrigan.
The Middlesex district attorney's office says police responded to the home of Daniel and Brenda Kerrigan around 1:30 a.m. Sunday over reports of an unresponsive man. The man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Brenda Kerrigan told the Boston Herald that her husband died of a heart attack and there was nothing suspicious about the death.
UPDATE: Mark Kerrigan has been charged with assaulting his father, according to Boston.com. He has not been charged with murder.
Mark Kerrigan, the brother of former Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, will be arraigned today on criminal charges, according to NECN. The charges are not yet official, but the news follows reports of a suspicious death at the home of Nancy Kerrigan's father, Daniel Kerrigan.
A tweet from Fox Boston reporter Keba Arnold says Mark Kerrigan has been "charged with assault + battery on elder,serious bodily injury..in connection with father's death." He is reportedly 45 years old.
MyFoxBoston also reports that a "struggle" between Mark and his father occurred before Daniel's death yesterday.
