Mehmet Oz On Morning Joe (VIDEO): The Poisons In Our Food

First Posted: 03/27/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:20 PM ET

Mehmet Oz, host of The Dr. Oz Show, appeared on Morning Joe to discuss the safety of our food supply. He focused on toxins that commonly contaminate our food:

The government now says you should not have more than a can of tuna fish in a week. That's a government regulation. The reason for that is that expensive good stuff, the chunky white stuff, albacore tuna? That has so much mercury in it that you can't eat a can without exposing yourself to more than what we allow weekly.

And that's just one way we're susceptible to environmental poisoning in our food.

Interestingly, Dr. Oz makes no mention of the existing mercury [ and still being placed] in people's teeth by dentists. In turn, considering the life-cycle mercury enters back into the environment dental waste from dental offices and human excrement not being captured in waste treatment facilities.

Ellen Brown wrote a very compelling article in the Huffington Post on the topic of dental amalgam, which is 50% mercury.

So what's up with government transparency if the Commissioner of the FDA sat on the board of directors of Henry Schein, Inc. one of the largest distributors of dental amalgam?

Dr. Oz please address the exposure. Dr. Mark Hyman surely has spoken about the negative effects of dental amalgam with supporting studies.

You misquoted him. He said "That's a government recommendation.", not regulation.

C'mon Dr. Oz. Take on the issue of why Europe and Japan, as examples, are so cautious about genetically modified foods and America, as almost a singularity, is completely uncautious about it. Maybe he could talk about his reaction to the appointment of the former VP and registered lobbyist for Monsanto as this administration's new Food Czar of the Food and Drug Administration.

GMO food contains fewer toxins than non-GMO. It you want to make sure your diet is as few toxic contaminants as possible, you are better off with GMOs.

Gosh, the alert must have been sounded to warn Whatevah of a possible Monsanto criticism somewhere!
So GMO food is safer, huh? LOL

Quick! Michael Pollan is on Oprah today discussing food safety. You'd better get ready!

Really??? Is that why most genetically modified food is modified not to be healthier but to resist the pesticides that is it doused in???? Like round-up ready soy? Maybe they would be more toxin free if they didn't have pesticides used on them. Also farmers who grow genetically modified crops are not allowed to keep seeds from their crops and have to buy seeds from the company every year. I have a problem with this.... Maybe it's capitalism but that doesn't mean thats the best thing for our health.

I love him, but can not watch the show too often, to be honest, it scares me to death most of the time...

Dr. Oz always seems to provide a lot of common sense.

To my eternal sadness and shame, I think I killed my beloved cat by giving her a teaspoon or so of canned tuna each day. She LOVED it, and it was just a little treat I gave her every day. But she was a small cat (7 lbs.) and, even though she lived to age 15, I think it did her in.

We eat no fish anymore. There's simply not a species or type that isn't terribly threatened by our over-fishing/over-consumption.

EAT LOWER ON THE FOOD CHAIN!

Gaia won't survive unless we do.

Sorry about your cat, but at 15, I'd probably blame it on old age. As for food, since shutting off the water in California is going to get rid of half the food produced there, we'll be scrambling to eat what ever we can get.

Mercury induces neuropathy, which expresses itself in seizures, loss of motor control, and in extreme cases, sensory degradation and death. If kitty was healthy, then you did no wrong, madam.
