Barack Obama's Super Bowl Favorite: New Orleans Saints

First Posted: 03/28/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:20 PM ET

President Obama may be a big Chicago Bears fan, but that is not stopping him from naming a preference for Super Bowl XLIV. Speaking with Diane Sawyer, the President admitted that he's leaning towards the Saints:

I think both teams are terrific. I guess I'm rooting a little bit for the Saints as the underdog, partly just because, when I think about what's happened to New Orleans over the last several years, and how much that team means to them, I'm pretty sympathetic.

So should Peyton throw the game because some idiot decided to build a city beneath sea level or the city leaders didn't have the courage to spend the money and fix the levies?

GTFOH!

I really don't care who wins, I'm just sick of the Hurricane Katrina sentiments being use for the saints.

do you really think that any of the people living there today are at fault for where their 200 year old plus city was built or for maybe being brought there as slaves that many years ago? you must be some kind of hick with a tea bag stuck up your behind.......you really need a little love and compassion in you life Hoosier.

In light of NO's hard luck, the city would definitely benefit from a victory more than the Colts, who already have a SB...Clearly the Saints have the gridiron gods on their side; they were extremely fortunate to beat a more talented Viking team. Minna-sootah outplayed them as well. Likewise, they'll need even more divine intervention to beat an even more talented team...ANything is possible, but I think their luck will run out against Indy.

Yeah, that interception at the end of regulation really showed how Minnesota outplayed them.

Ha ha.

The team with the most points win.

And, um... stats are for losers.

Obama's support of the Saints is partisanship pure and simple.

As a Niner fan it is hard to root for the Saints because I remember Tom Benson doing the "Benson Boogie" after the Saints beat the Niners a number of years ago. However as a football fan it is nice to see a team make it to the big game for the first time. Plus as a football fan that loves the NFL's great history it is hard to root for a team like the Colts that moved a great franchise in the middle of the night (and the same family still owns the team), To bad the city of Baltimore didn't do what the city of Cleveland did and keep the team records, name, etc. So go Saints and go Saints fans....44 years fo frustration can come to an end and you can do the City of New Orleans proud!!!! I remember when the Niners won back in 1981 and what it did for the city of San Francisco....

i'm not a Colts fan, I'm a Jets fan, but I want to see Peyton get another ring so that it'll solidify his legacy as one of the best, if not the best QB of all time. Watching Peyton play football is like watching Jordan or Kobe play basketball, it's just an incredible site to see.

Obama backing our team. Well, this is either a "we've got it made" or "oh, blank" moment for Saints fans!

I'm still going to root for the Colts, but Obama picked the Steelers to win last year and he was right, and he also picked North Carolina to win March Madness, which they ultimately did. Coincidence maybe but this guy's got a good track record so far, so I wouldn't put it past him to call this one right too.
08:46 PM on 01/26/2010
I'm rooting for the Saints too. :) For the same reason.

I don't hate the Colts for beating the Bears in the Superbowl. The Bears practically gave them that game, IMO.

The American version of football sucks, but for the sake of New Orleans' regeneration, I hope the Saints win.

1- To state my dislike of American style football
2- To express my support for New Orleans.
