Richard Nixon

Another member of a political dynasty is seeking a higher office in New York, and no, his last name isn't Kennedy.

According to his new campaign website, Chris Cox, grandson of former president Richard Nixon and son of current New York State GOP Chairman Ed Cox, is running for Congress.

Cox, a former associate at white shoe law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Executive Director of the New York arm of John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, hopes to wrestle the state's 1st Congressional from Democrat Tim Bishop.

Cox's father, Ed, was named state GOP chairman in September and has clashed with many GOP bigwigs including Rudy Giuliani.

If the senior Cox's political rivals will cause trouble for his son remains to be seen.

In any event, Cox will have his work cut out for him in order to separate himself from the "Tricky Dick" name.

So... Chris Cox is Nixon's grandson?

Interesting.

One of the first votes I ever cast for President was for Nixon in 1972..when he ran against McGovern.

Looking back.. if I knew then what i do now..

...I'd vote the same way.

McGovern was a nice guy, but presidential material?

No way.

Watergate brought Nixon down..and it was a rather stupid reason for being brought down..but, love him or hate him, I still think he is one of the most underappreciated presidential leaders of my generation.

Nixon establishmented the Environmental Protection Agency.
He proposed a radical overhaul of welfare with a guaranteed annual income.
He declared a war on drugs but devoted 2/3 of the funds for treatment.
He was instrumental in establishing affirmative action.
Title IX guaranteeing equal opportunity for women in education was established.
He normalized relations with China.
He improved relations with the USSR.

Yea, I know...............Watergate but I bet you he accomplished more then Obama will.

You know I have to say, I watched a documentary on Watergate and NY Times v. United States; and I have to say- compared to the crimes of the Bush/Cheney administration- Nixon's crimes were forgivable infractions.

That is just my humble opinion- but I would love to see Cheney brought to justice.

Imagine how they compare to the crimes of Obama, Geitner, Pelosi, Reid, and Frank...

Could possibly use Gitmo to detain a US President.

The Nixon/Kissinger team's bombing of Hanoi's civilian population is hardly forgivable.

"If he gets sh.ot, it's too da.mn bad."
President Richard Nixon talking about Senator Edward Kennedy. Nixon's comment was recorded on a White House tape, 7 September 1972.. The tape was released to the public thirty-seven years later on 28 August 2009, three days after the de.ath of Sen. Edward Kennedy.

I haven't heard the tape- are you saying that they waited for Kennedy's death before they would release it?

Hey, Bushies!
The Cox/ Nixon Grandson is going to go DOWN and OUT.

The Country isn't ready for any NIXON CLAN MEMBERS becoming elected officials so
it will be at least another 60 years before ANY BUSH CLAN MEMBERS
should attempt running for office.

I'm sure Mr Cox will pick his parents more wisely next time.

There is one itsy bitsy problem with that.

I grew up in the district that cox is running it.

It's eastern Long Island which is rural/suburban and usually Republican.

Tim Bishop, the Democratic congressman currently representing the district, won against an enept opponent in 2002, had another weak opponent in 2004 and cruised in the Democrat tides in 2006 and 2008.

I doubt that Cox will be that easy.

Bishop also just voted for the healthcare bill..which I'm sure is NOT popular in that area.

Cox choose his district well. Bishop may now be toast.

Of course. Many people like you respect crim.inals and thu.gs.

Nixon never drove drunk off a bridge before leaving his female passenger to die. Murderers are loved and respected if they're democrats.
09:50 AM on 01/27/2010
Really... Tricky dick's record made you want to go into politics?
Good luck with all that!

Rand says:

"Sometimes I suspect that every human being alive on that day was in Dallas!"

-----------------------

We know that Nixon was in Dallas on the day of the JFK as.sas.inaton. This fact can be easily verified by imputing a couple of key words into Google. Fortunately, because of the Internet, the American people no longer have to rely on corporate media filters to discover their history.

Then he should become a monk.

First NYers are forced fed a candidate (Gillinbrand) whom we don't like, then a carpetbagger from Tennessee (Ford) throws his hat into the ring and now we have tricky Dick's grandson in the mix and we still don't have a contender for whom to vote. Bad state of affairs.
09:29 AM on 01/27/2010
Now you know what the voters in MA had to contend with. A faux news candidate (he won) and a woman who prosecutes innocents.

Who should people believe--the entire RESPECTED academic community, or some dork was living in his mom's basement that puts together a cut and past TRIPOD page? Are we really to believe that you somehow single handedly deduced the solution to the one of the most investigated cases in the history of the world....please...

apparently not enough time to to PROOFREAD my last post....it should read cut and PASTE, and the "was" before "living" should have been deleted.
Sorry for the errors...
