Gisele: 'I Gave Birth In The Bathtub'

01/31/10 07:01 PM ET  AP

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen says she gave birth to her son in a bathtub and that it didn't hurt a bit.

The wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tells Globo TV she wanted to be aware and calm during birth. So she decided to have her boy, Benjamin, at home on Dec. 8.

The model says in the interview aired Sunday she "didn't want to be drugged up" when she gave birth.

To prepare, she says she did a lot of yoga and meditation.

Bundchen says the boy didn't cry after being born and rested in her lap for a long time.

Brady and Bundchen were married in February.

Benjamin is Bundchen's first child. Brady also has a 2-year-old son, Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan.

Good. Screw the greedy hospitals. Only dentists and vaccinations are really necessary on a regular basis for the healthy majority.

Tell that to the family of the Christmas Miracle Baby -- remember his mother died while giving birth and the baby was technically dead too? If they hadn't been in the hospital both would be dead today. Home births are risky at best. Why not have all the technical assistance necessary readily available?

Dear Jazabelz: I think you are missing a "little" detail in this story: She went into cardiac arrest after been given EPIDURAL, anesthicia. People don't realize that epidural is really strong. Not everyone tolerates anesthicia in the same way.

"A mom and her newborn son are back home, after they both touched death on Christmas Eve morning at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Tracy Hermanstorfer went into labor nearly two weeks earlier than her due date. She was discussing baby names with her husband, Mike, while she was getting an epidural.

"I was feeling weird, but nothing out of the ordinary," says Tracy.

She says she fell asleep, but what happened was, she stopped breathing and her heart soon after stopped beating. "

There is a link with the video of the Mommy and Daddy of the Miracle Baby. In this interview with ABC Good Morning America. she says that after she was given PITOCIN she started feeling "weird" and for the first time in her life she asked for EPIDURAL. Keep in mind that she had already delivered 2 kids without anesthicia and everyting went FINE. It could be a coincidence the anesthicia and the cardiac but I wouldn't take any chance with those things.

Nothing like walking while in labor :-) I couldn't resist the bed while going through contractions.

totally cool. i didn't realise as i read the comments below that using the home tub had become such a standard way to give birth. i thought it had to be a special plastic pool dedicated to that purpose. is sterilisation much of an issue?

Just like the parents of baby boomers who had to listen to the nonsense that we thought we invented childbirth; I suppose we are fair game for similar punishment by having to listen to our children prattle on about the "special experience" of childbirth, and the breathless happiness of having midwifes and doulas lovingly done scuba gear.

Most of the world drops its babies on to a mud floor in an unsanitary situation. If the child lives that's a miracle. Those are tough women. That they immediately get up and slave away in male dominated tribal cultures is a cause for true admiration. Not some over indulged twit who can pop babies out like submarines in a Boston pent house pool filled with rose water.

And, tell me, who gets to cleanup when supermodel gets herself out of the tub with afterbirth, blood, etc. mixed in all the water. OMG....these folks have no respect for those who have to work for a living! Cute.

The staff has to clean up in a hospital too. Gisele probably paid more bucks to have her baby that way.

Well, I don't know about Gisele actual birth; however, as a woman who chose to birth in a jacuzzi. In natural birth (no epidural or pitocin), the placenta and the blood that comes with it doesn't come out right after the baby. In my case, once my daugther was out and in my arms. The only thing outside my body was one end of the umbilical cord, hold by my midwife. Within a few minutes she asked me to get out of the jacuzzi and lay down in the bed a put my daughter on my breast. As soon as my daugther started sucking on, the contractions started again and the placenta came out. Then, the midwife closely checked the placenta to make sure that it was complete. To make sure that nothing was left inside of me.

P.S: My midwife is a pro with more than 30 years of experience. Her name is Shari Daniels at Miami Beach Maternity Center :-)

Yeah---that's right. There's an interval between. Can someone tell my why Giselle is getting put down for this. Normal, regular women have babies in bathtubs every day. it's gotten to be a much more common approach to childbirth. As for cleaning up, it's always a mess after a baby's born. Not a big price to pay for bringing a new soul into the world.

I love her even more now. I also gave birth to my daughter in the water, a jacuzzi with the assistant of my midwife and doulas. It was the most beautfiul experience. I've had 2 children and both times I've opted for natural childbirth. No epidurals for me please. I am an athletic woman and always felt strong enough to birth this way. Obviously I am not afraid of the pain. This doesn't make me superwoman or anything, but it did make me feel that I could birth my children the way I wanted without doctors telling me what to do and when to do it.

Oh, god forbid we do what our doctor says. I hope this poster's doc has her identified and shows her the same respect and gratitude when she's trying to get into the ER for life altering circumstance. To say nothing of his family, having to put up with these patients who show no respect to their Dad/husband's time, reputation, etc.

Sorry if you don't like a woman who doesn't see pregnancy and childbirth as an illness. For "this poster," a healthy pregnancy carried by a healthy woman is the most empowering time in her life. I only see Dr.'s for my annual check-up because in reality I never get sick. Same thing with my kids and husband. I am also blessed with my kids' pediatritian. Not only is he a regular ped. but he also is an Homeopat. Obviously he believes in traditional medicine, when need it, but thinks that abusing of medicine, specialy antibiotics, when is NOT neccesary is plain wrong. We love Dr. Eisenberg :-), Guess who refered us to him? You guess, my Midwife.

I doubt she gave birth in a bathtub. Considering it is highly unlikely she had a vaginal birth, no doctor or midwife would slice that waif open in a bathtub.
