Paris's spring-summer 2010 haute couture collections have come and gone, and with them, runways full of zippered eyes, lampshade hats, basket dresses and at least one model who looks she she got lost on her way to a Dolly Parton show. We pulled eleven of the most interesting outfits to hit the catwalk. Which of these looks are crazy cool? And which are just plain crazy?

I LOOOOVE these! But then, I used to be a costume designer for theatre. These are very theatrical, beautiful, but no they're not meant to be worn down the street. Just the designer having fun and showing off their creative capacity.

OK, I admit my ignorance, because I have never understood the use of these crazy outfits. No one really buys/wears them, yet a fortune is spent on the designs/shows/ads/etc. Most of the outfits cannot be worn in public.

Just sharing - but for people who think these kinds of runway shows are a little crazy, many times the outfits (the crazier ones) are more about the materials and colors that went into the outfit. Sometimes the outfits are meant to ilustrate colors that we will be seeing, or textures. It's not always literal. For instance, the zippers on that models face might mean that fasions will include zippers; not so much functionally but it might be something that will be incorporated into the design.

Again, just sharing.

Thanks for the great explanation. An 'ah ha!' moment for me.

Still - a few of those models were so rail-thin, it's a wonder they can carry the weight of a button, let alone an outfit. Stick women...so sad.
