Prince Harry Falls Off Horse, Throws A Fit At Barbados Polo Match (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

First Posted: 04/03/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:25 PM ET

Prince Harry threw himself off his horse during the annual Sentebale Polo Cup in Barbados this past weekend. The royal told Sky News that he tried throwing himself clear of the falling horse after it slipped. He was "a bit sore" but otherwise uninjured.

After the fall, a visibly upset Harry threw his polo mallet and punched his helmet.

The reason for Harry's anger? A "mystery benefactor" promised to donate $100,000 Barbados dollars ($50,000 USD) to the prince's charity if he stayed on his horse for the entire match. The donor has since told the prince that it's "clear that the horse fell over, rather than [Harry] fell off it" and has honored his $100,000 donation.

The prince raised £30,000 ($47,700 USD) for his charity Sentebale, which helps poor children in the African kingdom of Lesotho

Leave Harry alone. He was angry with himself because he thought he'd lost $100,000 for charity by falling. He's an admirable young man and his mother would be proud of him-----as we are. HuffPo shouldn't take cheap shots of someone who trying to do so much good in the world.

He didn't throw a fit, he threw his mallet.
The horse was ok.
The headline is misleading.

Now all those "Who's your daddy, Harry, John McEnroe?" rumors will start again.
Wonder if he shouted, "You can not be serious" to the polo official he yelled at right after this fall?

Roger Federer can be happy Harry didn't take up tennis! Blame it on the a-a-angry genes.

To protect them from being caught in the mallets.

I'd have more respect for the situation if he actually showed an ounce of concern for the horse!

He, sir or madame, is not a gentleman. Concern for his steed is the last thing on his mind. I am reminded of a pithy warning that oft passed my dear, departed lips, "Pride goeth before the fall".

I confess I failed to mention the words to which I earlier alluded came from my dear, departed mother's lips. Writing with pen and ink proves less prone to such stupid, stupid errors writ large at H.P. than the all too easy access to expression the internet affords.

that's because its a 1200 pound animal and it only slipped onto it's side.

as you can see the horse gets up and runs out of frame nonchalantly

Yeah, like where was the horse's concern for the Prince?

I have witnessed the video and come to a conclusion. Whereas it seems a self-aimed outburst from the Prince in the heat of the moment after his unfortunate fall might warrant some understanding from those engaged in the match as well as those who watched from the side, it would also seem Prince Harry then turned on some regulator of the match, if not his fellow team mates. After throwing his mallet carelessly with no forethought of the bodily harm it could have caused to perfectly innocent enthusiasts of the manly sport, he stands shouting angry words (as there was no audio I could not honestly report what oaths passed his lips), but some persons felt the burn that only reflected from himself. The Prince revealed a prideful side to his personality that belied the amiability by which his public relations people would have us believe he was worthy. I can only say, Prince Henry's hot headed and un-considered actions spoke more to his inner Mr. Wickham and sadly, he could not channel the inner Mr. Darcy who would have brushed himself off and doffed his hat to the crowd, however haughtily swallowing his pride.

Well. I promise to always be in love with an Imperialist regime if you promise not to let yourself fall off before the horse hits the ground belly up first.

He didn't fall off the horse, he went down with the horse. I could care less about Harry. Tell me about the horse, it took quite a spill.

Even without the charity explanation, I think Prince Harry deserves some slack. So what if he's Paul O'Neill after something goes wrong (Paul would smash things and yell). He didn't hurt the horse.
