Coyotes, raccoons, and... beagles?

Apparently the lovable dog species is the latest animal to go wild in New York. Packs of beagles have been seen roaming around parts of Eastern Long Island, attacking family pets and scaring residents.

The dogs are thought to be abandoned by hunters and forced to forage on their own.

One woman and her two pet dogs were forced to run for their lives after being set upon by one of the packs. They made it inside the woman's home with the beagles jumping after them, breaking part of her door.

Isn't this what the Animal Rights nuts want? Pets 'free' to live in nature?
Where's the celebration?
Ken4057   09:31 PM on 2/08/2010
Would it kill you to become even minimally aware of animal rights issues before throwing around dismissive insults? Ugly and useless.

During my travels in Mexico (long ago) the dogs were the lowest form of life during the day...but at nite, they ruled and you didn't want to mess with them. Even the smallest dogs became like piranha's!

The Beagle Bunch

Here's the story of a lady Beagle,
Who was bringing up three very wild Biatches.
All of them had white tip tales, like their mother,
The youngest one's was curled.

Here's the story, of a Beagle named Brady,
Who was busy with three Pups of his own.
They were feral dogs, roaming all together,
Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the B/tch met the Alpha,
And they knew that it was much more than a hunch.
That this group would somehow form a Pack.
That's the way they all became the Beagle Bunch.
The Beagle Bunch, The Beagle Bunch.

That's the way they became the Beagle Bunch.

Spay N' neuter your pets!
JeanRR   08:09 AM on 2/04/2010
And what does this have to do with dogs abandoned by hunters? It will come as a shock to you but spay/neuter does not solve all animal problems.

What is the matter with some people? If the dogs don't perform they just let them loose? WTF.

Seriously. I guess hunting teaches not to have respect for animal life.
JeanRR   08:11 AM on 2/04/2010
That is because you are not a hunter (neither am I). There is more than one type of hunter. There are slobs and there are those who are part of the web of life. Feel free to condemn the slobs but don't tar all hunting with the same brush. After all the wolves that I bet you revere are hunters too.,

I don't believe this story for one minute. I have four beagles and although they will kill birds and squirrels they would never "attack" a person or send them "running for their lives." I hear there has been a problem with raccoons with rabies in NY, that is the only explaination that makes sense, although I pray that is not the case. Beagles are NOT mean dogs, they are just big old babies with way too much energy sometimes. As for the hunters who abandon them, they should be left in the woods with bears, bob cats, etc and see how they fare.

i'm an american staffordshire owner. i think this story is less abowt the breed and more abowt the lack of control. ANY animal alowd to becom feral WILL becom feral. there needs to be a much more strict enforsmnt of the animal laws alredy in plase, this is way out of control

They should find the hunters, take them up to a cold mountain and then abandon them there with no food, no winter clothes.. that way they can have a taste of their own medicine
