NFL Hosts Community Garden Celebration At Miami Elementary School

More than a dozen active and former NFL players came together on January 24 to celebrate the work of second-grade students and staff who took part in constructing a fruit and vegetable garden at Carol City Elementary School in Miami.

The event was hosted by the NFL Players Association and several community organizations.

"This school and its class of second graders built a garden that will help them to appreciate nutritious foods and the value of hard work and exercise," NFLPA President and Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae said. "So we're here to present them with a check, a grant for them to continue their garden and education, and to provide inspiration for all of them. We have a lot of guys in the NFL from this area, from Miami specifically, so we're also here to say, 'Hey, we're part of your community, we want to help out and you guys are doing a great job.'"
