Top BANNED Super Bowl Commercials (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   Michael Klopman   First Posted: 04/05/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:20 PM ET

One of the most entertaining parts about the Super Bowl, besides the game of course, is the anticipation of the new commercials. Now we know we won't be seeing a new Pepsi commercial on Super Bowl Sunday, but not because of any controversial issues.

But believe it or not, there are scores of commercials that are too controversial for television (including one notable case this year), leading to many ads that are banned before they ever reach the airwaves. Scroll down to see some Super Bowl ads that were deemed too inappropriate to actually be aired. (WARNING: Some ads may be NSFW.)

These ads all seem like they were created by a room full of 8th grade boys - that's the level of humor in them. Sex and stupidity. It always strikes me as weird that in America, sex is such a touchy subject, but we can show all the graphic violence we want. There won't be any sexual content stronger than a PG type of rating during the game, but how many promos for very violent movies and tv shows will there be? Dozens, I'm sure. They show all these promos with people shooting guns, beating the crap out of someone, or torture, but if there's a nude pair of boobs, all hell breaks loose. Strange values.

First of all, if you are really interested in running your ad during the superbowl before you spend many thousands of dollars on production you can run the script and storyboards past the network.

But that presumes that you actually want to run your ad during the superbowl, you know, as in actually having the money to buy air time?

So instead you just make the ad, or ever ask the network to reject it. Viola! Instant viral exposure on the internet!

The Bud Light/Sex Tape ad is a valuable public service announcement. Ladies, don't be dumb enough to let your boyfriend make a sex tape with you in it.

I can't figure out why some of these were considered inappropriate, like the Japanese restaurant ad. Why we should group these ads with one for a company promoting infidelity is beyond me.

Ah, taste in Super Bowl ads - now there's an oxymoron. Still, a good 5--6 minutes of fun to watch these (just not while the boss is around).

I didn't like many of them, but I agree that I'm not offended by these ads. Certainly, the anti-abor-tion ad that's going to be aired bothers me much more than these. But I still think CBS or any network is right to be careful of what sort of messages they want to present in a "family" event like the Superbowl.

I very liberal minded, so I don't mind seeing images and ideas that I don't agree with or find entertaining. I accept that not everyone shares my taste or viewpoint.

Or maybe they're bitter because they're not getting any.

I think the PETA ad was absolutely brilliant! I'm still annoyed that they refused to air it.

"Too racy" for AMERICAN TV. In more mature countries, such things are aired without any fuss.
