Leif Garrett Heroin

LOS ANGELES — Former 1970s teen idol Leif Garrett has been released from jail on a charge he carried heroin into a Los Angeles subway station. Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the actor and singer was arrested late Monday for heroin possession and released on bond Wednesday.

Whitmore says the 48-year-old was shaking and sweating.

Whitmore says Garrett denied having drugs at first and allowed them to search him, then acknowledged that he had black tar heroin in his shoe.

Garrett has a history of drug use, including a 2006 arrest at another Los Angeles subway stop for having heroin.

He is due back in court Feb. 24.

It was not immediately clear if Garrett had an attorney.

There's an opportunity here for Tiger Beat to do some hard-hitting, important journalism.

Ha! I wish I'd thought to ref Tiger Beat! My sister always had that rag lying around. Appropriately sardonic, Sardonica.

Why was he stopped and searched in the first place? Because he was shaking and sweating? Is that reason enough for a personal search nowadays?

Maybe he was stopped because he was in the subway in LA?

What?! There's a subway system in L.A.???
02:16 AM on 02/04/2010
Yea, where have you been?

Simple misdirection, my friend. You know, Leif Garrett keeps getting busted for the same thing, so I was feigning shock at the information etc. Although a subway system in one of the most geologically active areas in the world has always struck me as incongruous.

Is your avatar an upside-down silhouette, or some kind of negative space image where you can make out an old woman or an urn, depending on what you choose to see? Also, what do you have against sheep? Just wondering

The real story here is that someone actually used the subway in L.A.! I live here and don't know anyone who takes it ever...

Its jammed to capacity every day, oh clueless one. Wake up and smell the future.

This is big news!

LA has a subway?
09:52 PM on 02/03/2010
It has thousands of them.

Those $5 foot longs are great !!!!!!!!

Actually the Metro Link system is pretty good.

However, with the city being so big, we're still tied to our cars.

So public transportations is mostly for "people who don't have cars".

We have a subway system in Los Angeles (we also have an above ground passenger train system); it only started about 10 years ago. The subway stations are beautifully designed and always teeming with people - yes, it has riders. Problem is, it's still very limited as it's very new, but it is expanding. As it starts going more places where people want to go, it will have more riders. I for one hate being tied to my car and would gladly take public transportation if it was just more comprehensive. If I still lived in Hollywood and worked downtown, I would most certainly take the subway as that's precisely what one of the lines is for, but that's no longer my situation. It's erroneous to think nobody in Los Angeles will take public transport since they love their cars so much. Most of us would give anything to get out of our cars at least part of the time if only the public transportation was easier to access. Doesn't make much sense to take the subway when you still have to drive to the station.

I'm going to ride it all the way to Tremor Ave. or Earthquake Place.
It's the only subway in the world that isn't sure if the station will be there when the train arrives.
