Michelle Obama Sports Peter Soronen Suit For Obesity Meeting (PHOTO)

First Posted: 04/05/2010 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 3:25 pm

On Tuesday Michelle Obama met with members of Congress and Cabinet secretaries to discuss her biggest initiative to date, the one that brought her a standing ovation at the State of the Union: the fight against childhood obesity.

Mrs. Obama was well-suited for the occasion, wearing a red herringbone jacket by Peter Soronen, according to Mrs. O. The first lady famously wore Soronen's designs for her first black tie event at the White House on February 22, 2009 and to the Kennedy Center Honors in December. See all her Peter Soronen looks here.

She looks great in that suit! Nice color and shape...structured, but no too rigid...perfect! Remember her white STUNNER at the Inaugural Ball? She's worn that designer many times over and has always looked fab - including a black opera coat on a trip to Europe check it out here: http://j.mp/8g3xml

This guy is a much better designer than the one who designed that frumpy dress for the inaugaration. As far as childhood obesity is concerned, ban high frustose corn syrup and the problem will be solved.

He's a great designer for Michelle Obama.

All the featured outfits look great on her, except the peach number with leopard sweater and wrapping ribbon.

What we can see of the suit looks fabulous.

I agree with eveything you said. She can toss that strange peach thing in the trash, but the others looked great. This jacket is a really good shape and color for her, and her hands look very good in this picture, too.

I think all First Ladies are beautiful, whether on the inside or the outside or both. I don't think in terms of Republican or Democrat when it comes to a First Lady.

I think all have done an excellent job in representing all people of the United States.
12:31 PM on 02/03/2010
Okay, good for you!
12:35 PM on 02/03/2010
I concur!
01:48 PM on 02/03/2010
Is that an opinion or some sort of stated fact?

One thing is for sure. If we counted all the clothes she has sported this year, the first family would be broke. This media blitz for this First Lady reminds me a lot of the obsession that Princess Di had for clothing. It says something about our culture especially now during a recession with so many thankful to have a winter jacket.

Someone else's clothes is none of your business. What someone else does with his or her money is his or her business; not yours.

Maybe you missed the part where it says she pays for her own clothes.

As for Lady Di, I don't believe she ever wore J C Crew, an off the rack store.

I haven't visited a Michelle Obama story in some time because of the disparity in comments: people who adore our First Lady and those who wish to personally insult her in a mean spirited way.

Our First Lady is a beautiful woman in any garb. Mrs. Obama's smile is absolutely radiant. She has a caring presence and elegant stature. All other descriptives become sheer rhetoric for me. I admire everything about our First Lady and only feel the pride that she brings to our country.

Hi Philip B,

Thank you for your uplifting and sincere remarks. I write from the heart when it comes to our First Lady. I think you do as well.

A gentle fanning back (your #122- my birthday!)

Peace to you, Friend.

Keep the Kids Healthy...

They're gonna have to pay for Obama's reckless spending frenzy, and a quadrillion dollar national debt!

We better feed them now. They won't be fat adults.

Would you care to give us the numbers on what the debt was that Bush left Obama with?

On the one hand you ask for tax breaks, then on the other hand you you want a reduction in the deficit.

Just how do you think that is accomplished.

If you do your homework, you'll realize that most of the debt is due to Bush's tax cuts with no income coming in to cover them, and a bank bailout done under the Bush administration.

In fact by the end of his term Bush has grown the national debt by more than $4 trillion. This was the biggest increase ever under any of the presidents in the history of the US. And that was not even counting the bailout of the banks.

Seven times during his time in office Bush asked to have the debt ceiling raised.

So could you please tell us, just who is going to pay for the obscene spending frenzy from the 8 years that Bush was in office?

It’s the biggest increase under any president in U.S history.

Good one.

You have a point. I wonder how many billions Haliburton made from their good old boys Bush/Cheney.

Weren't they the ones responsible for the showers that ki//ed a number of soldiers? But then of course Bush also bears the same responsibility, with the exception that his numbers are much higher and still continue every day. The gift of d.eath that just keeps on giving.

I still think the Hague is the best place for the entire bunch involved in this unbelievable mess.

Oh right, let's not forget that Obama inherited two wars thanks to Bush and Co.

Why is all the news about Michelle Obama always put in the fashion section, as if to say that what she wears is more important than her good work?
11:21 AM on 02/03/2010
Because people seem to think that women can only look pretty...

I agree though, the doings of the First Ladies never get attention.

I hope all the stories about Michelle that are in the style section are only about her clothes, and that is where they belong. However, it would be more fair for the media to cover more of what she accomplishes in other areas as well, in whatever sections her efforts belong. Her childhood obesity work could be in the health section, her gardening could be in a Lifestyles section, etc. Come to think of it, for all I know, she is covered in those sections. If so, my apologies.

It was J Crew during the campaign. Now that she is First Lady, it is top drawer designers .... let them eat cake.
10:50 AM on 02/03/2010
Perhaps you should put down YOUR piece of cake . . . and you might be able to fit into a Soronen suit, too.

BTW, b!tterness doesn't look very good on you. She is buying her own clothes with her own money, so what reason do you have to be so b!tter?? Were you as upset when Nancy spent thousands of dollars on new dresses?? No, I'm sure you weren't. Your problem was not the dress THEN, and it's not your problem NOW. Your problem is with the person who's wearing it. Too bad. Get over it.

I agree. She's so pretty, but they're drawn too high. You can see her natural brow line, which is about an inch lower. She needs a little help from a good makeup artist.

Mrs. O has a full time makeup artist, and hair stylist, they may not be listed as staff, because she pays for them herself., according to the White House. They also travel with her on official business. There used to be a 'pool' of them for Congrss people as well.

Actually, this high school photo shows that her eyebrows are where they have always been, albeit thinner and better groomed.

I do think that they would look better a little thicker.

Interesting. It sure looks like her brows are that high and well arched naturally if they are plucked from the bottom. Just a tiny bit thicker would be nice, but the shape or her brows is quite good. My eyebrows are an aggravation, so I can understand trying to get them just right.

People can express themselves as they wish. This is the style section, so it's subjective.
