Planned Parenthood's Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad Response (VIDEO)

First Posted: 4/5/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Tim Tebow's Super Bowl ad, which is expected to convey an anti-abortion message and is funded by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, has generated controversy and drawn protests from women's groups. One high power attorney has even alleged that the ad may be based on a falsehood, although the veracity of the claim is not certain.

Planned Parenthood released an ad today with former Viking Sean James and Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner. In the ad, the athletes say they "respect Ms. Tebow's decision" not to have an abortion when she was pregnant with her son Tim, but they are also "working toward the day where... every woman's decision about her health and her family will be respected." Scroll down to watch the video.

I'm amazed to see so many hateful comments towards CBS and those who care about life, not to mention the ignorance and rudeness displayed towards half of our country in belittling their religious beliefs. You call yourselves caring, enlightened, and tolerant, and yet everything you say is disgraceful, hateful, and incredibly intolerant. Despicable!

Thank you CBS on behalf of all unborn citizens of America in their mother's womb for airing the Pro-Life Tebow Ad.

Tim Tebow's LIFE is clear evidence for all Americans to understand the truth about abortion. By rejecting a doctor advised abortion, Tim's Mom brought Life into the world. Thus, abortion should be called and rejected by it's true identity, murder of another human being.

Should not the President, his Party of Death, and Pro-Choice organizations who support abortion thus be in jail instead of trying to kill unborn Americans through the heinous hate crime of abortion?

God Bless CBS for having the courage to oppose the Pro-Death leaders and agenda of a nation which, before the Roe vs.Wade death on demand decision, respected the sacredness and dignity of Life.

BN2112 you make the most cogent comment of all here. Thanks for shining a spotlight on the issue.

Clearly the controversy is because you are only allowed to speak out if you say what the "pro-choice" (what a laugh) tmovement hinks is okay. If you say "My choice is to keep my baby in spite of overwhelming odds and choose the life of the baby - even over my own perhaps" that is somehow "offensive" to women. Ridiculous. Their uproar only proves one thing - they are not pro-choice, they are pro-abortion. I AM pro-choice, in that I think the woman's right to chose what is right for her and her family must be upheld and protected. And I applaud the choice Tim's mom made, as look at how it turned out for her. And I would love to see a world where more women choose life over abortion. But I will never take that choice from them, nor would I ridicule or mock or insult a woman who chooses to tell her story about why she got an abortion. THAT's what being pro-choice is all about.

The key word here is choice. Women must have the right to make informed choices over their health/bodies in light of what they believe to be best for themselves, their families, their futures, and their conscience. The problem many of us have with the ad is that in no way was she allowed to make this choice in the Philippines in the 1980s so her claim is disingenuous. Additionally, even she did "make a choice" she is advocating that other women not be allowed to do so. This rings hollow. Trust women to make the right choices--give them information, opportunities, and options. Period.

lol...how lost you are...the reason why focus on the family created the ad is to make overturning roe v. wade socially acceptable. It's great that Mrs Tebow kept her baby, but honestly that's her business and the fact that you can't understand reading between the lines I suggest you focus on educating yourself rather than making silly comments on hp.

Sooooo disappointed that CBS elected to team radical evangelicals -- Americas fading faith!

Like the European community It's just a matter of time -- the more educated we become the less reliance of mysticism.

what was so bad about the ad, it was done in very good taste

I don't understand what all the controversy is about. The ad is obviously pro-choice. The woman clearly talks about making a choice. She chose to keep her baby rather than abort which was an alternative she starkly implies she weighed. Otherwise the ad is pointless.

"anti-Choice"? So that makes us "anti-Life"?

Wanda Sykes had a clever comedy bit about the banning of the ManCrunch gay dating ad, and allowing the Tebow ad. She rationalized CBS prefers radical conservatives, so ManCrunch should have added that to their commercial. The men begin to kiss break apart, then go back and forth arguing no woman should be allowed to abort, even if her life is in danger,........then they go back to kissing.

US News and Report asked an online poll
should CBS air the Tebow ad
NO = 54%

so much for everyone saying there is no CONTROVERCY, it would be controvercial if even a small majority favored it...they don't even have that. A mere vocal minority of Christian Fundementalists is driving this ad running.

So let me guess, CBS IS running the Hocus Pocus on the Family ad, but not the Planned Parenthood ad?
Given PP's advocacy for contraception and women's health in general, no telling how many ab orti ons they've actually prevented.

Shame on CBS. This is a blatant slap in the face to women.

CBS has blatantly chosen to take a different advocacy stance on only this one issue because CBS apparently opposes a woman's right to choose.

I will boycott CBS and all its Super Bowl sponsors and hope other women, their husbands, brothers and fathers will choose to do the same.

CBS has no legitimate position that is not hypocritical to have allowed the showing of any of these anti-abortion advocacy ads. CBS owes Planned Parenthood and other progressive advocacy groups free air time to counter these ads and show their views since CBS refused other opposing advocacy ads to be shown.

CBS: the network leader in hypocrisy.

Once, when I opened the door for one of them, I was asked if I accepted Jesus Christ. I said, "No, I only accept Visa, MasterCard, or American Express." And then I closed the door."

A SECOND pre-game Focus on the Family ad

"There's a new Super Bowl surprise from Focus on the Family: a second ad.
The evangelical group that bought ad time in the CBS game telecast will announce today that it has bought time in the pregame show to air a second ad four times."
"They could pull the ad (now) and save $2.8 million (the estimated cost of the ad time in the game)."

But the group estimates that by the game's end, the ad also will have gotten $10 million worth of free exposure.

"I've seen this called brilliant marketing strategy," laughs Daly. "Well, I can assure you this was not something where we sat down to demonstrate brilliance."

The idea came from the group's film unit. Daly decided it was a Super Bowl ad. "I thought it was the perfect moment."

He coaxed CBS to ease the game's unwritten ban on advocacy ads. CBS says it's adjusting to a changing society. "We have for some time moderated our approach to advocacy submissions after it became apparent that our stance did not reflect public sentiment or industry norms," spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs says."

THIS whole thing reeks of a hoax that NO Superbowl ad was ever going to run, and CBS was completely complicent in jinning up the HYPE.
CBS you p*ssed off the WRONG people.
