"American Idol" producers are eager to hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell as the show's tough-talking judge, sources tell Page Six.

An insider said that producers of the hit Fox show say Stern, America's highest-paid radio personality, is their top choice to take over from Cowell, who leaves at the end of this season. Simon says it's just a rumor, and I hope he's right. American Idol is a "family show" and Stern is NOT a family show type of person. Actually, I think he's kind of vulgar.

If Stern replaces Simon, this family will no longer watch.

American Idol has totally jumped the shark. Whether this is true or not.

Ugh. I can't stand this guy for how he's glamorized the sex industry. Too bad for Idol!

Have you actually listened to the interviews---they actually debunk the "glamorous" thing when he talks to the girls. I think you should actually listen to his show (the entire show) before you make a generalized statement like that. Just sayin.

The day that happens, American Idol will be dead to me. I was one of the lucky few who heard him berate his former wife, live on DC101, the morning after she miscarried.

Stern is sub-human.

It's hard to animate on live TV.

Stern? Gag!

I think Howard is the perfect replacement for Simon! He is the obvious choice and I hope he does it.

Howard Stern and Ellen Degeneres? I would watch.

Only if they're having s.e.x.

Ellen wouldn't let him near her.

Stern is a really sleazy guy. So Idol would have a really mean, really sleazy judge! Not appealing!

Have you ever bothered listening to his show? Even I listened to several entire Rush Limbaugh shows before criticizing him. It's time in my life I won't ever get back unfortunately, but at least I can render an informed opinion.

It's fine that you like Stern. You're entitled to your opinion. As I am to mine. Yes, I've listened to his show, and watched him in the old days. Did you hear him berate his former wife after she miscarried? Apparently another reviewer is aware of this also and found it disturbing. It was really distasteful. Shocking in fact. Do you like what he's done to promote the sex industry? As a matter of interest, why are you speaking in his favor? Just curious!

He'd definitely be nastier than Simon. Maybe too nasty it'd be a turn off.

Well, if they're going for tell-it-like-it-is to replace Simon, oh wait, what am I saying!? Simon can't be replaced, he was the center piece of Idol and once he's gone I don't think the show will last, Stern would bring in a new crowd and I think we'd see a lot of various http://movies09.com/2010/02/05/if-howard-stern-were-to-replace-simon-cowell-on-%e2%80%9camerican-idol%e2%80%9d-what-kind-of-judge-would-he-be/ performers, but who knows, maybe a new twist is exactly what the show needs to bring back it's ever dwindeling audience.

Hmm...well, if anyone can do it, it would be Howard. I don't think he can pull it off, though. Frankly, Simon is American Idol.

The one season I watched Idol, I found myself agreeing with Simon most of the time. He assesses fairly. Give me 100MM, and I'll replace Simon.

Rush isn't the highest paid radio personality? Rush is not the King of All Media? Huh? I only watched one season of Idol -- the best one, I am told, yet I still missed the final -- but I think that Howard Stern would fit right in because he doesn't have the "decency" to lie about shoddy performing.

Rush couldn't do it because his hearing was oxydized.

Rush couldn't do it because he doesn't have the intellectual capacity.

It would get high ratings for a couple of weeks, then the whole show would go down the tube.
