Shahrukh Khan, Bollywood Star, Sparks Anger With Cricket Comments

Shahrukh Khan, one of Bollywood's biggest stars, is facing the possibility of riots when his new film opens because of comments he has made about Muslims in India.

The star himself is well known for both his Muslim heritage and his repeated pleas for compromise and consideration between the Muslims and Hindus. Khan said last week that he was sad no new Pakistani cricket players had been brought into the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite Pakistan's position as the top cricket team in the world. Khan is himself a co-owner of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

"Pakistan is a great neighbor to have. We are great neighbors. They are good neighbors. Let us love each other," he said in relation to the cricket transfers.

In response to Khan's comments, Shiv Sena, an anti-Pakistan extremist group, has threatened to attack cinemas that screen Khan's latest film, My Name Is Khan, unless he retracts his remarks. "Shah Rukh should go to Pakistan if he wants to speak in favor of Pakistani players," said Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab, a demonstrator Khan's Mumbai residence.

Cinema owners and government officials have begun bracing themselves for Shiv Sena's protests. The group ransacked cinemas in 1998 for showing the movie Fire, which included lesbian themes. Some cinema's have already removed posters for the film.

However Khan has remained unrepentant. "The question of apologizing does not arise at all," he said. "I have done nothing wrong in saying what I said about Pakistani players and I said that as an Indian."

Ok let's see -
this is a Indian Premier team, why should they put someone from another country.
This is like asking the US Olympic team to put Soviets on US team. Why don't pakistanis join the pakistani team. This is nonsense.

This guy is a troublemaker like when he came to US, expected to get special treatment at the airport by US TSA and made a huge stink when they didn't recognize him at airport and so he made trouble after 9/11. Nobody should get special treatment. Nobody cares about him in the US.

If you go to country and make fortune then don't make useless trouble, show some respect for the people who were killed in mumbai by pakistani terrorists.
Indians shouldnot go see any of his movies at all. Let him go to pakistan and get pakistanis for pakistan team. Nobody would miss him.

I wouldn't go defending this guy.
He made a huge fuss about even being asked why he was visiting the US after 9/11. No one is TSA regognized him. No one treated him like a god here in the US so he complained and made a huge stink at the airport in the US. No one here loves him. He made a lot of trouble with embassies and state departments between US and India. Gee, a lot of US congressmen, Kennedy, on some TSA list and just take it in stride. But, no this guy wants to be treated like a god by the US TSA too.
He's a egotistic snob always making trouble.
Bringing pain to the the friends and relatives of the Mumbai Terrorist attacks and the city.

You are commenting on marriages taking place 1400 years ago.You are unable to go back to the culture and traditions existing in the world 1400 years ago. Right in the UK an eleven year old boy had fathered a child in 2007. Take the case of age of consent as it was existing in the civilized UK until 1929.Up until as recently as 1929 the law in England (and Wales) still allowed boys as young as 14 and girls as young as 12 to be legally married. Would he call those marrying 12 year old girls as criminals? It is foolish to use 21st century norms to 6th century customs. Even today in the advanced Japan, it has one of the lowest ages of sexual consent in the world; it's as low as 13 in metro Tokyo and the national age of consent ranges between 13 and 18 depending on the province. Are the 21st century Japanese marrying teenagers criminals? Religiously, it is impossible for people outside the culture to understand the reasons for cementing the attachment which existed between Muhammad and his closest friend Abubakar. The manners of the country recognised such alliances and Aysha was living for about 45 years after the death of Mujhammed vouchsafing some of the finest traditions and teachings of Muhammad.

Shiv Sena is generally anti-everybody. It has gained notoriety by being anti-South Indians, anti-Biharis, anti-UPites. Think of it this way. There are 57 Islam-majority countries, most which call themselves "Islamic states." Christianity has a special status in 40 odd countries and many of them DO take steps to protect Christianity. There is a Jewish state (as there should be.) But, even though there are 800 million Hindus and even though their country was broken up to create two new Islamic countries, Hindus neither have a "Hindu nation" nor does India protect Hindus' rights even inside India, forget about outside. In fact, the congress and Marxist governments routinely trample all over Hindus' legitimate religious and other rights to appease their respective vote banks.

If state protection and zealous promotion exists for other religions, why isn't Hinduism entitled to the same rights as those other religions? That's question a fair minded person has to ask himself or herself.

If, for whatever reason, one were to assume that Hindus are not under any kind of threat, then that person is both ignorant of the last 1400 years of history, up to, including and after the partition of India, and the politics of the present Republic of India. Only Jews have had it as bad as Hindus in terms of persecution during the pre-WW2 segment of this period..

Wrong is wrong whether a Muslim country does it or a Hindu nation does it.You are mixing up facts with fiction.No nation on earth can survive too long ignoring the rights of minorities, regardless of whether it is saudi Arabia, Isreal, Afghanistan or Pakistan or even France. Indian state is ready to deploy army to flush out Sikh insurgents from their Golden Temple and flush out Muslim rebels from Charari Sharif , but the same Indian army could not or did not want to protect Babri Masjid from the jack hammers of the fanatical Hindu mobs in 1992. In 1947 predominantly Hindu army of Kashmir was absorbed in the national army, where as Hyderabad’s largely Muslim army was disbanded, rendering nearly 20,000 jobless. The Indian army’s infantry regiments are still based on religion such as Sikh Regiment, Gorkha Regiment, Garhwal Regiment( caste based). A bearded Sikh may become Chief of the army staff (Gel J.J.Singh)but a Muslim army guy may not sport beard- as he looks a jihadi. A Hanuman ( monkey god of Hindus) temple greets visitors upon entering virtually every cantonement in India. Does it mean that non-Hindus do not belong there? Generals like B.C. Joshi and Shankar Roy Chowdhury are hard core Hindu zealots in secular Indian army. India is a hundred times better than the Afghan tribal law. Still a lot lacking
