Dominic Carter Out Of Jail: Ex-NY1 Newsman Released Early

02/ 5/10 11:41 PM ET   AP

Dominic Carter

NEW YORK — A former New York cable TV newsman convicted of assaulting his wife at their home has been released from jail after serving 19 days of a 30-day sentence.

Sheriff's Department Detective Lt. William Barbera told the Journal News that 45-year-old Dominic Carter was released Tuesday after his sentence was reduced for good behavior and time served. As part of his sentence, he must stay away from his wife for two years.

Carter was convicted in November of attacking his wife Marilyn during an October 2008 argument at their Ramapo home, northwest of New York City. He is appealing his conviction.

Carter was influential in city and state politics as host of NY1's "Inside City Hall." He was taken off the air after NY1 learned of the incident.

Just by showing his picture - you are accusing HP of this? His race has nothing to do with it - He BEAT his wife! This crosses all races, ethnicities, income strata. The fact that he was released after 19 days of a piffle of a 30 day sentence.

Do you know that murder by husband/boyfriend is one of the leading cause of deaths for women?

Dominic Carter and his wife should feel like fools. What was the point of this? He had a decent career going at NY1 and now he, and his wife by extension, have nothing. TV journalism is competitve and there's always younger reporters coming out of school. He's not young, he's not good looking and his style was abrasive to some. I wonder what he plans to do now. I just think it's a shame when people blow their careers over what amounts to domestic silliness. Relationships fail... it's tough, but people shouldn't ruin their lives over it. Two words: move on!

I was wondering if the Carters are still planning to look for the day laborer who was alleged to beating up Dominic's wife.

I think people should at least hear the whole story about what really happened with Dominic Carter before you fry him like fish first. I know he had no business touching any woman violently but hes appealing his trial so hes claiming his innocence. Theres always two sides to a story. Maybe he told her he was leaving her or anything could have happened. She might have tried to ruin his career purposely. I am a woman myself and believe me. Theres no sconr like a womans scorn in getting even.

Yeah right, he got out for good behavior and time served. He must have told Sheriff's Department Detective Lt. William Barbera "Let me out of here now, I know people in high places."

C'mon, will not condone his behavior, as I wouldnt' Charlie Sheen's . But Dominic is not someone who would misbehave in jail.
First, he's still in shock that he was behind bars. That said, I never missed Inside City Hall. But of late I have. He was perfect for the role as host. Watched many of his successors, but he was just the best for that slot and format. Knew of his work from the days he was on Radio. He's a trained journalist and hopefully will be given a second chance. During this process there's a lesson for all of us.. be kind to people on your way up...'cause you will pass them on your way down. Dominic pray and keep your fingers crossed we all are deserving of forgiveness should we err/ do the unexpected. http://www.zipinpolitics.com

Fox Noise doesn't deserve a talented newsman of the caliber of Dominic Carter.

Dominic and his lady should now double date with Hiram Monserrate and his silly young girlfriend.

They have so much in common.
