Coyote

Forget James Franco, the hottest celebrity spotting at Columbia University is now a trio coyotes.

The wild coyotes were spotted in front of the university's Lewisohn Hall Sunday morning.

Dianna M. Pennetti, the Director of Public Safety at Columbia's sister-school Barnard immediately sent out an e-mail to students with a warning not to approach the animals if spotted.

There has a been spate of coyote sightings in and around New York City in recent weeks and years.

Students at the Ivy League school should hope that a beagle infestation isn't next!

If they are not going to catch these coyotes and release them in a more rural environment they at least need to catch them long enough to vaccinate them for rabies.

The Republican Party have already declared that coyotes will form part of their healthcare reform plan.

Basically the coyotes will be unleashed across America to pick off the weaker sickly and infirm members of society to create a healthier one in general.

There is more wild life in urban areas than meets the eye. Falcons, turkeys, beavers, coyotes, racoons and much more are there for your viewing pleasure. Maybe there is some truth to the croc in the sewer story after all. Next news headline will report bob cats in Brooklyn.

This will continue to happen with businesses plowing down the woods to make way for condos, and stores, Unfortunately they are removing the natural habitat for these animals. So you will continue to see raccoon, deer, coyote and all the creatures that at one time were just found in the country and the mountains moving closer to the inner city, because they have no where else to go.

Where I live in Westchester,NY we have had Black bears in our town. Just be careful and do not try and approaching them

They're only taking the ecological niche left after the wolf population was killed off by bounty hunters in a misguided attempt to control Mother Nature. Right clever animals they are; they'll survive a nuclear holocaust.

I was backpacking in upper lower Michigan two summers ago by Sleeping Bear and we came across two wolves, the DNR (who i used to work for) denied they existed (we had pictures).

They are very crucial to our Eco system and Yellow stone has recovered tremendously with the reintroduction.

My dog and I have run-ins with Coyotes all the time. They have attacked my dog once when she was off chain. She is 45 lbs so it was a pretty good match up before I got to them. South Denver (Douglas County) has them everywhere and very few people seem to want to kill them. They are growing in numbers out here and should be controlled.

I'm rolling my eyes at almost every effing comment I've read on here. It seems like the people commenting most and that are commenting specifically about how "common" coyotes are...and how ooh, people with houses should get used to it, or "i see packs of coyotes chase my horses daily"
ARE MISSING THE POINT OF THE EFFING NEWS ARTICLE.

This is NYC. THERE ARE NO SURROUNDING RURAL AREAS AROUND COLOMBIA EXCEPT FOR REGULARLY VISITED PARKS THAT ARE PART OF THE CITY LANDSCAPE!
Yes, it IS news when a coyote is loose in the city. The inner city doesn't have such things happen very often. Our biggest 'coyote' problems are really people who might try to rob u in the dark. Most city folk haven't ever seen a coyote in real life. Just like most country or surburban folk can't tell a crackhead from a person on the street.
